Long time lurker, first time poster. Thank everyone for all the knowledge you've shared over the past 1.5yrs that I've been lurking around. It has been an immense help. Unfortunately, I need some more, and haven't seen this topic discussed before, so here it goes. First a little about me:

    2017 TRDOR- White
    Tyger cover
    Supersprings
    Bed D-Rings
    5100's @ 1.1" stock springs
    ChinaPro Grille
    LED low beams
    TSB 62-18
    FactoryCrafts matte black hood decal

Now to the good stuff: Have you ever heard of a dealer selling a used car as new? Here's why I ask. Went to look at a cavalry pro and during appraisal of my current truck they said I was the second owner, well...News to me, it was sold as new. Come to find out there was a previous title on the vehicle that was void by the dealer about 35 days after initial purchase with the reason code being "wrong MCO". Any chance someone had this thing, lemoned it within 30 days, dealer wiped the title, turned around and sold it to me? or should I calm down and chalk it up to a paperwork error?

Also, what size tires can I fit without a lift...J/K :annoyed:

How many miles were on it when you purchased new?

You could be in a state where someone brought it back in the cooling off period and the dealership took their time filing the proper paperwork.

Funny, the exact same happened to me on the vehicle I traded-in for my TRD OR DCSB. Car was delivered with 3 miles on it, and I had all the original paperwork from the selling dealer. CARFAX said I was the third owner. Not sure that it wasn't swapped among dealers, but I don't know how that paper trail works.

Zero effect on the trade-in value so I didn't really care. I would chalk it up to a paperwork mistake.

I do not believe Ohio has a cooling off period for vehicles, but would need to research more.

About 300..Chalked that up to dealership employee use, but it did sit on the lot for a long time, considering it's a Tacoma...arrived at dealer 3/17/17, I purchased 7/21/17.....Carfax says first title was issued 5/28/17 and void 7/5/17

Id be willing to bet it was just a paperwork error. The MCO means it was built outside of the us and imported.

This can happen if a dealership starts a deal on a vehicle and then it somehow falls through after they have submitted some of that paperwork to the state.

They will have to send a letter to the state to rescind that original MCO. Then issue a new one once you purchase it.

300 miles is an awful lot. My truck was moved from about 200 miles away, but it was on a transport truck, so it didn't have more than 6 miles on it when I purchased. There could be something strange going on... What's the Carfax show?

Carfax shows two titles issued. First title issued 5/28...then dealer voided that title on 7/5 by contacting the BMV and saying they used the wrong MCO. Second title issued to me on 7/21. Carfax Lists me as the 2nd owner.

Could be paperwork related like others mentioned, but that's quite a few miles. Assuming it wasn't brought back 3 times for an issue which should show on Carfax, there's probably no concern.

Leaning towards a PW issue. But, noticing my odometer cert that I quickly signed with my crying baby in the room, it says they sold it to me with 10 miles on it...and when I took the truck there for an oil leak they did not record the service, even in the Toyota system, it's like the oil leak never happened as far as Toyota is concerned....so there is all that weighing on the situation as well. I opened an investigation with the state BMV, I guess I'll reserve judgement until I hear the results.

That's a little unsettling about the mileage. Good luck, if you remember, post back what the outcome is. I'd be interested to hear. I hope it's been a good truck for you.

The fact that they sold it to you and stated only 10 miles on the paper work when in fact had 300 miles is kind of fishy.
Having 300 miles is kind of high if it was never dealer swapped. A lot of times they have someone just drive it rather than pay more to have it transported.
I alone racked up some miles on a test drive bringing it home and back the next day.

    Too few to list.
As far as I know, once a new vehicle has been titled it is no longer considered new. A couple of years ago I looked at Rubicon that had all the stuff I wanted but was priced about $4K lower than new ones. I test drove it and the sales guy told me that the vehicle was sold and the loan did not go through so the new owner had to bring the Jeep back. It had almost 600 miles on it. I forget the exact details but in CA, the dealer only has a limited time frame to get your loan approve otherwise there are two options, they take the car back or finance you in house.

A certificate of title is nothing more than a confiscation receipt...proof the vehicle was confiscated at the point of sale. You can only buy, sell and trade the equity rights to a motor vehicle ownership stays with the government. I wouldn’t worry about it you don’t own your vehicle your just a tenant. Lol

A lot of different things could be true, but it is all speculation at this point.
I sold cars for about 6 years.
Dealer trade mileage, maybe. Extended test drive abuse, dealer salesman demo, maybe.
The incorrect odometer statement could just be laziness on their part. Exactly 10 miles sounds like a finance mgr blowing in a number. If they did unwind a previous deal on the truck, they may have neglected to record actual miles at the time of your purchase.
But any previously titled vehicle cannot be sold as new, as others have said.
At the end of the day, it probably doesn’t matter a whole lot. The Tacoma has ridiculously good resale value regardless of owners, anyway.

    This is what I’m thinking.

You would not have been sold a lemon... and not have to continue to be a lemon. By definition the problems with it never get fixed.

I think its more likely the dealer you are doing the trade in are making a bigger deal about it than they need to. (Or you are, if there is nothing wrong with the truck who cares if was new or used??? Dealers make more on used cars because financing is higher interest rates. Its unlikely they would lie)

I guess my response is who cares? It doesn’t affect your sale price or the price of the vehicle so why worry about it?

All very good points above- I guess I should have mentioned as well that I currently have a claim with Toyota to exchange the vehicle. It has had it's fair share of problems, which is why I'm likely making a bigger deal out of this particular issue than I need to..so far:

Engine oil leak from timing cover
    Rear diff leak
3rd brake light leak saturated interior
Same trans shifting issues and driveline vibrations others have
    AC service campaign
dealer forgot to re-install front skid after oil change, had to chase it down
    coolant leak

All in, 7 trips to the dealer not including Toyota care visits, and still have 3 out of the 7 items to get fixed.

I don't want to make a bigger deal than I need to, but then again, I need to make a big deal about everything in order to move Toyota in the right direction.
