I happened to me twice and it hasn’t came back, one of the dealers managers told me I am the tird person with the same issue, the dealer tried as much as possible to help, even took it to Toyota corporation even tho I have video and data out of the Event Data Recording box, ( the car black box ) Toyota corporation is stikkng to “ the brake system is working “ Honestly I feel that there’s an electronic issue in relation with the actuators of the crawl control, the parking assistant and the dealer mention could even be the transmission relays, but any how Toyota would not take it serious until more and more people take it serious and contact them.

I had a similar issue with the passenger rear drum locking up. Washed the pickup the previous day. It was in the 80’s or so and probably got into the low 50’s overnight. Jumped in the pickup the next morning and it wouldn’t budge. Felt like ebrake was on or someone jammed my wheels (I park on the street). I went through P, R, & D a number of times and set and released the ebrake. Nothing seemed to work. Dumbfounded, I turned it off and started again putting pressure on the gas pedal. Left some rubber on the road. Turned off again and waited a couple minutes contemplating calling a tow truck. Started again and it was fine. Like nothing had happened. So odd. No warning lights. It has been totally fine since.

It seems to be very sporadic and random different conditions too mostly related after a wash, Definitely has to do with water and either electrical components, The first day that happened to me it was nor even that cold at night probably 50s

I don't think it's electrical. If the ABS were actuating the brake there would be lights on the dash. The common thread here is washing the truck in the driveway then letting it sit overnight without moving it first. This appears to be bonding the pad to the rotor. 4 wheel drive should unstick it with the least amount of skidding.

If you want to make sure jack it up and take the wheel off while it's locked up with the engine off. Use a pry bar to try to turn the wheel. If it won't turn take the brake caliper off.

Just winching it up a roll back is probably going to unstick it so no reasonable way to get it to a shop in this condition.

I believe that issue that guys are having deals with the rear drums and handbrake, not the front rotors.

Yes this has happened to me twice as well. I have a 2017 TRD OR 4x4 here’s a video of when it happened with me.

    https://youtu.be/ZpeIpoFEGDg

I showed it to toyota and they said they opened a bulletin so they could track anyone with the same issue. I’ll try and get the bulletin number for you so you can have it recorded onto your truck too

So check this out I have been having this problem almost since I bought my 2018 Ted pro. The thing is it will happen to me while I’m driving down the road! First time I had gone up to the hills came down and washed it. I pull out of the car wash and it locked up in the middle of the road I put it in 4h and it kinda broke loose but the breaks where still engaged took to the dealer. They had no idea. Second time it was actually at the dealer getting a oil change and they washed it. Then it locked up on them. There diagnoses was bug guts on the front sensor. Third time I drove threw a flooded out road but the water wasn’t even up to the middle of the tires. Made it threw fine I parked it and didn’t think anything about it went to the gas station later that day and when I was coming back it locked up again in the middle of the road. I mean screeching halt style. I had to have it towed and it’s at the dealership as we speak. I’ve also gotten a lawyer to help me with the lemon laws. I love this truck but it could kill me or someone else if this happens on the highway.

That's nuts! Hopefully they can solve something as to what's causing the front brakes to seize

2017 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4 front brakes locking up completely after I went to through the car wash last night. I see a lot of people are having the same problem. This is my first time & not sure if there is anything I can do to unstick them?

Did a burnout in my garage today with the same issue. Washed the truck last night, drove it around to dry it off, parked it. This morning it wouldn't budge after trying both first gear and reverse a few times (front wheels locked, rear were free). I dont have crawl control since it's a manual tranny, so that eliminates that theory for me; It's possible Radar cruise could have been glitching, though. I pumped the brakes once, heard a clunk, and the truck freed up.

If your specs are correct and you have a Sport, that is why you do not have Crawl Control.

You got it. Wish Toyota offered an access cab 4wd Manual OR so I could've gotten crawl control and a locker included :)

2018 offraod 4x4 manual same problem after a wash. Sat over night and truck wouldn't budge just now. Fwiw I only have about 1300 miles. Really freaked me out and I tried engaging 4wd, turning on and off the locker and traction control. Shut it off a few times. Still didn't move. Then I tried pumping brakes and it finally released. So where is the bulliten so we can report this?

This happened to me 4 times today. The last wash i did was 5 days ago and I’ve been daily driving my truck for work. Another thing to note is the truck doesn’t only not accelerate from a stop, but also stops while im actually driving. Hope someone could help cause this is scary if this happens while driving on the highway.

I too have had this happen to my 2017 TRD OR several times after washing it and letting it sit overnight. I have taken it to the dealer twice and they were unable to determine the cause.

This same thing just happened to me right now. Washed my truck last night, and when I tried to move it this moving, nothing. I did notice that after washing my truck and putting it in reverse to park, that the brakes felt a little tight, as if they were being applied. I ran a diagnostic on it, and it is giving me an error code of B1244.

I read up on this issue, and supposedly it has to do with condensation entering the ABS fuses. I removed both of the 50 & 30 ABS fuses, and turned on the truck and moved it back and forth with no problems. Obviously the ABS warning light turned on. Reconnected the fuses, and no problems afterward. You can take it to the dealer to find out what the underlying problem is, or just carry a pair of needle nose pliers with you to remove the fuses.

I just took my truck to the dealer for the brake issue, and explained to the service agent why my truck was in, and he stated that there is a factory recall for CERTAIN VINs, due to faulty break sensors. That when the sensor make contact with water, that it locks up the wheels. Supposedly my truck's VIN# is not one of the trucks affected by the recall, even thought it has the prob
