its not like it used to be, if you dropped something people used to go out of there way to find who it belongs too. now they take everything even if it's locked up

Yeah I just feel bad even though I looked a long time and really hard - I guess you can always look harder and longer even after the longest and hardest look you have done.
It was a steep grade and grid searched - very tiring especially without water.
There was no lout pop/crack either. And it it just ran down the hill with a cow and bugled like a normal one. I'll probably go back down and search the area again and a little bit ways from it too - it wont be salvageable by then but then I'll know I should not kill another.

Thanks! It was crazy being in elk everyday and seeing them everyday. It really could not have been a better place for me.
Yeah I think I missed but it is such a big target it just is kind of mind boggling that it did not even wound it. But if you're off and at that distance and that angle it happens.

I'll probably switch to lighted nocks since once that arrow was off the string it was gone! I've learned a lot from this experience and also to try to remember key events. Things happened so fast it was almost a blackout this time. Don't want that to happen again!

I’ve seen people like Michael Waddell “the bone collector” lol even miss them at 30 yards. Shot right over him. It happens man. Better to not find anything and miss than to find blood and know you hit I’m and never find him. Good job doing it all yourself. Still badass!

Definitely. I know Farren (probably mispelled his name) well. Good guys out there. That’s cool you hunt out there too. Good area for sure.

Thanks for the story! It's horrible to say when you are trying to take the life of an animal, but shit happens. You probably learned more in a few days than some hunters will learn in years. The pain you feel goes away, but the memory won't.

Thanks for reading! I’m a small game hunter and hate taking the lives of them too, but animals just taste so good. My love for eating them outweighs the hate of killing them haha
I will take what I learned alone and apply it when I go back for Friday-Monday with my wife. I got a whole lot from the experience though!

I worked for Farron at Hoffman for about 7 years until my shoulder was torn up. I’m just getting nack to where I can do stuff but work threatened to yank my bennifits if they caought me in there doing anything so I’ve had to stsy away. I worked with him was a staff shooter for the shop and Elite and Dead Center archery. I’m hoping to be able to get nack into it but I’ll never be like before

Yeah really, they started it the first time i was operated on. “ if we catch you working in the archery shop while your recovering we’ll remove your pay and bennifits.” “ but what if all i do is run the register?” “We don’t care you could trip and fall and hurt yourself again” :frusty:

Crazy man it’s a small world! Yeah that work and benefits crap is tricky stuff. I actually work in the operating room (although I’m back in school working towards becoming a physician assistant now) and I have had my shoulder worked on as well so I definitely know what you mean. Mine took forever to get right but I have always been able to continue shooting thank God.

Do they still go to that 3-D shooting range in Rixeyville? If you mention me (Tedric) to Faron he will definitely know me. Tell him I said hey if you talk to him. He was always a good dude to me. Maybe I’ll swing by there one day and say hey.

I haven’t been there in a few years but it was an awesome place to shoot. I loved all the different animals and the way they were set up. It was super fun to estimate the ranges and let em fly!!!

Give me a shout one day if you know you’ll be in Rappahannock hunting and maybe we can catch up. I mainly hunt there in the evenings in th early season. Pretty much impossible to get to where I hunt in the mornings with the deer in the fields later in the season closer to the rut I will though.
