Anytime I’ve test driven something, it’s always been the exact vehicle I was looking at.

No at least for me I was not looking for where it was built that was just a side note that I noticed and made incorrect statement about, the main thing was when I was looking for in the Truck I wanted to know what Factory options and port options listed as installed because one Dealer had a truck listed at a certain price and when I went to check on it I asked about the bed mat got told "oh that is a extra option you can purchase" same with the floor mats so then when I checked the Toyota site I found that the floor mats and bed mat were port added option for that truck and this place wanted to charge again for them.

Which might just be what my part-time retirement job is.

I did a trade for our Hyundai store today. Both cars had 11 miles when I started, and both had 230+ when I was done. It's the nature of the business.

What if the dealer gives a new car to a service customer as a loaner but has the customer fill out test drive paperwork on a car with only 5 miles on it. Then the customer puts 300 miles on it in the 3 days he has it and brings it back. Still new, right?

no....service cars are leased by the stealereship.....then when they have "x" miles on them, they either turn them back in, where somber turned into certified used vehicles or auctioned off.......its a tax thing

I didn't say you don't get to test drive the vehicle you ultimately end up deciding on. At the same time it's not uncommon for test drive vehicles to rack up pretty insane mileage for a "new" car. I told the dealer that I wanted to test drive my commute before committing, just to be sure it's gonna drive how I want it to. Guess what, we went on a drive on my entire commute. I must have put at least 20-30 miles on "new" vehicles test driving and I'm definitely not the only person looking for a '18 TRD Sport. All it takes is 5 customers to come in and in a single day a truck can rack up 25-30 miles. Some trucks spend months on the lot...that's a lot of miles.

Say you test drive a TRD Sport and love it. You order one in the trim/package you want. You still get to test drive that specific vehicle before taking ownership of it, that is fair.

Yup, seems pretty common. The dealer I bought mine from did a trade with another in Pennsylvania for my truck, so it had 270 miles when I picked it up.

I did Google maps the driving route, came in at 265ish miles so everything checked out.

I made sure to find a dealer who actually had the truck they were trying to sell me. It had 2 miles when I test-drove it and 11 when we got back to the lot and I wrote the check.

And, as far as the warranty is concerned, it started only when you took ownership of the vehicle. Still a 'new' truck.

(I wonder if it came from our Toyota store? Where was the original delivery point?)

Yup, my basic warranty will expire at 36,270 miles instead of 36,000.

Truck was originally delivered to Freedom Toyota in Hamburg PA. I guess they took some convincing to trade, as it was August 2016 and the 2017s were juuuust starting to come out.

    ***update***

I contacted the dealer I bought the truck from and told the sales manager that the truck had two titles...radio silence. No response and will not return my calls.

In addition, my Toyota claim manager told me that I can EITHER pursue a buy back OR continue to get the truck fixed. Turns out she wasn’t lying. My local dealer is refusing to look at my timing cover oil leak and diff leak. Wow, I didn’t know they can refuse warranty service if they feel like it. Can this be true? Can the dealer tell me to pound salt even tho the truck is under warranty and defective?

They sure can...the factory warranty you have is a contract between you and Toyota and not you and the dealer.

So corporate is aware of the situation and not pursuing the dealer for you? Seems like they would want to know what is going on as well.

Yes, they are aware of the title discrepancy, bmv investigation and all quality issues with the truck. I genuinely thought they would want to know too, and help to do the right thing. Nope..

In Ohio, dealerships can let a person drive off of the lot with the new vehicle before financing is confirmed in hopes that a bank will fund the loan, even though the customer signed all of the paperwork. This happens a lot and then when financing can't be obtained, the customer is forced to return the vehicle.

Happened to a guy I worked with up there.

There are a lot of possible scenarios, and quite frankly I’m not overly concerned about that side of things. But, refusing to honor the warranty after reporting it and other quality issues? Crazy.
