So what's the consensus on getting 2018 Super White? I'm getting close and so far, have a Inferno and a Super White (different dealers) but swinging towards the Super White as I already own a white GM Denali (2017 model and haven't had a single paint issue and it's been on several 600miles+ road trips). The super white would look killer with black TRD PRO rims/front grill.

Is this a widespread prob or just a small #of isolated incidents? Thanks!!

Its more widespread than you would think but for different reasons. You gotta take care of your paint and no one does. Ceramic Coat or at least seal it and you will be fine forever.

My wife's previous Tacomas (2005 and 2011) were super white. Put 100,000 miles on each. Her present super white Tacoma (2015) has 70,000 miles on it. No paint problems. I wax her trucks three times a year and they are garaged at night. My four month old Tacoma is super white. Nuff said.

Super white is great, no problems with mine, and one is 10+ years old with no issues.

Is it the same super white they have been using for decades? Or has the paint been changed since then?

    Hey Oscolivar1,

Your truck looks great btw. Who did your ceramic coating? Im from around the NoVa area and was looking into getting it done for my dad's truck. It is 2.5 years old now, hope that wont be an issue. Thinking the truck will be detailed prior to the ceramic coating?

Reliable auto detailing did my coating, owners name is Terrance.

Another person Willie he owns washmepleaze. This is him https://youtu.be/r6yKDUPlcQk

Both have IGs. Willie is more on the high end spectrum on cars like lambos etc. Terrance is more of the daily driver vehicle, but he can do high end cars. Both places wash, clay bar, chemical decon, paint correct, level your paint etc etc bedore laying down the coating.

Terence coating my wheels not to long ago as well. B1FB914D-60C6-4BCD-86A4-4413EE2E3F35.jpg

It appears my 2017 has developed the same problem. I noticed back in the fall when I waxed it that there was a dull area but after cleaning it today that area has become darker and bigger.upload_2019-2-3_4-10-36.jpg

Hi, Having same issue on the hood and the roof. Went to dealership and service manager told to come back when Toyota representative is there. He comes once and month and they will call me to when to bring it back. They did not take any pictures to record this incident and told that they never seen any tacos with paint issue. Had only 2010 Rav4 with peeling fender and older 4Runner. Will have to change my schedule just to meet suit that shows up randomly once a month... I had 2002 Civic (sold 2008) and mom's 2010 Versa (sold 2017) both white and at that age cars had mate looking finish. Was able to polish them and came out like new. It is definitely paint problem with white tacos. These spots should not develop on two year old vehicles. Will update soon.

Toyota corporate rep looked and measured paint of my car and agreed to repaint hood and roof. I took it to body shop that they deal with and estimator will sent estimate directly to them. Asked what is the price tag for that type of work and she said 3000-4000$ They have to remove windshield, rear window and roof racks. Also they will provide warranty as long as I own it. Now I just have to wait for shop and dealer to finalize their process and they will let me know when to drop it of and pick up a loaner.

On Monday I dropped of my truck at the dealer to get painted. Got new Camry as a loaner. Truck was done on Wednesday. Paint job looks ok so far. Problem resolved. The bill was 1600$ FROM the shop.

I’d like to redirect this post.

I have a ‘14 DCLB with 37,000 miles. This past weekend I noticed that the paint on both front doors near the window is peeling. My hood has been lacking in shine for a while, and my roof feels like 320 grit sand paper. This super white sucks so bad that I have to fold in both outside mirrors when parked. If I don't, the reflection in the mirrors fades the paint in multiple spots on the doors.

I went to my dealer today to have it looked at. I was told that super white Tacomas with super white paint are currently not covered! The service manager is contacting the district manager. I was told that they may paint the peeled spots but probably not the faded spots. This makes no sense since those areas will soon peel too.

There is a TSB out there and it clearly says that they will fix it only once. I wonder if fixing only the peeled spots will screw be later when the rest peels?

I paid this same dealership $800 in 2012 to fix this exact problem on my ‘06 super white Tacoma!
