    Hello truckers,

Does anyone have any recommendation on hauling a riding mower in a Tacoma Double Door with a Short Bed? I measured the inside of the bed:
    81” Long
42” (maybe a hair more) Wise between the Wheel wells
53” Wide before the Wheel wells.

I wanted to buy the JD X350 with 42” mower deck but it’s too big to fit.

The only riding mower I found that may fit is discontinued, the Husqrvana 42”.

    Thanks,

    Keep on trucking!

Do yourself a favor and just get a small trailer to haul a mower on.

    Thanks for the idea.

The problem would be storage. I don’t want to get a trailer to keep out in the rain, snow, freezing temps and wouldn’t look good for my friendly neighbor.

Especially if your gonna haul mower a lot you will grow tired of the ramps and and room for nothing else in bed.

Could you build a small elevated platform on both sides of the wheel wheels to eliminate the narrowest part of the bed?

Right truck or right mower. If neither works, trailer.

If you really need us to help you look for the right mower i'd ask that you describe the size of your lot or lot(s), whether its hilly or flat, whether you need to tow a cart or anything behind, etc. I dont want to recommend something with a home depot hydrostatic transmission that cant handle hills.

If it just needs to go in the bed once when you purchase to bring it home then maybe delivery is an option. Usually only like $40 or so. I've had a 42" deck Husqvarna 18.5hp in my 2nd gen short bed. I removed the mower deck to make it narrower. Use some 2x6 or 2x8 planks under the wheels running the length of the bed and tailgate. This will alleviate some of the weight on your tailgate by using the weight of the mower that's at the cab end to lessen the load on the tailgate itself. If the track is wider than the 42" between the wheel wells, you could ramp up on top of the wheel wells with just the front end of the mower. It can be done but more hassle then it's worth if doing it on a regular basis you'll want a trailer. I found a 4x8 folding trailer from northerntool for $450 which you could store in the corner of your garage or shed.

About 3/4 of an acre or less.
Mainly flat with a slight downward slope in the front lawn.
This is for a residence not a business.
I’ve looked at many but the husq. 42” is the only one I found that would fit and had some guts. Thanks.

Have you seen the cheap harbor freight ones? They fold up right against a wall. That's what I'd do.

Also this. Uhaul is pretty damn cheap. I got a 3500 pound trailer for a whole day for like 20 bucks.

i haven’t. Do you think they can carry the weight? We’re talking 5-600 lbs.

Harbor freight also has a small fold up trailer, and you can likely use one of those 20% off coupons they send out to reduce the cost. Trailer really is the best solution, all the time you’re going to spend trying to squeeze it in your truck, removing the deck..ugh...even if you do find a way to fit it in with the deck attached, the angle of the ramps may be to much and the deck may scrape on the tailgate when u load it. Much safer too.

Check out Simplicity mowers. One of their 38 inch decks might accomodate your needs but any mower will be tight I think.
