1GR-FE 4.0L V6 from a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The 1GR-FE is the 4.0L version. Bore is 94 mm and stroke is 95 mm. Output is 236 hp (183 kW) at 5200 rpm with 266 lb-ft (382 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm on 87 octane, and 239 hp at 5200 rpm with 278 lb-ft at 3700 rpm on 91 octane. This engine features Toyota's single VVT-i, variable valve timing, system and a compression ratio of 10.0:1. Inside, the 1GR uses a taper-squish combustion chamber design with matching pistons to improve anti-knocking and engine performance, while also improving intake and fuel efficiency. Toyota adopted a siamese-type intake port, which reduces the surface area of the port walls and prevents fuel from adhering to such walls. This engine has special cast-iron cylinder liners cast into the block, which are a spiny type to improve adhesion between the liner and cylinder block. With these special thin liners it is impossible to bore the block. In the event of cylinder wall damage (scoring, deep protrusions, etc), the entire cylinder block must be replaced. For increased block rigidity, the 1GR also receives a high temperature plastic insulator/protector, which fills the empty space between the outer portion of the cylinders and block material common to open deck engines. For increased cooling efficiency, the 1GR employs water passages between the bores of the engine. There are such 2 passages for each bank for a total of 4. This reduces cylinder hot-spotting and keeps combustion chamber temperatures more uniform.

This in essance makes the 1GR-FE 4.0L engine disposable (or at least the block) since the entire cylinder block must be replaced once it is worn or damaged. This also makes proper break-in and good preventive maintenance even more important (unless you have money to spare to replace your engine).:D

Yeah you cant bore the factory blocks.. It has plenty of power as is. Heck compared to the V8 dakota it has only 4 less horsepower.. I mean what more could you ask for from a stock V6..

And just think, if you use preminum gas, you can close that gap to only 1 HP since you go from 236 hp, 266 lb-ft with regular gas to 239 hp, 278 lb-ft with preminum gas. And that is a lot cheaper than boring a block (power on demand, just add preminum gas).

I havn't checked online but i would agree with 4x4, i would think the tacoma is lighter than the dakota. Sizes are roughly the same but the bigger engine should make it descently heavier.

From the specs I have seen the V6 dakota is about 280lbs heavier (curb weight) and the V8 is 400+. Remember that it takes 100 horsepower to make up for 1000lbs in a 1/4 mile race. Or a good rule of thumb is every 100lbs equals 10hp or .01 secs in the 1/4.

So what you are saying is, that in a heads of race the Tacoma should beat the Dakot with no problem at all.

Well not exactly...as you all know (well some do I am a hardcore drag racer and have been for many years)...so lets do the math....

Tacoma 4000lb curb with 200lb driver
Dakota 4300lb curb with 200lb driver

    Tacoma 200.6 RWHP
    Dakota 221 RWHP (optional 260 HP V8)

    Tacoma expected 1/4 mile... 16.05
    Dakota expected 1/4 mile.... 15.90

Thats to close to call..will come down to driver/who reacts first/tires etc. but will be a very close race.

How would you figure it for the 240 horse dakota? It is still so close between the hi po and the tacoma. It is just rediculous that the V6 can come within a tenth and a half of a V8. Your a big racer huh? You race the mustang?

Yes...my mustang runs high 9s at around137 MPH. It is still fully street legal.

The 240 Dakota would work out to about 16.3
