i just remember bouncing around trying to keep up with Brett and his fancy shmancy suspension. it was a neat place! I think the family and I are going to try and run it over Thanksgiving week.

When can we expect dual cases in this thing? I would love to come lend a hand when you do it. I'm thinking this is the way I'm going to go with mine.

 

The earliest I think that I’d have the crawl box in would be in the spring. Just too many other things in front of that project right now.

This fall I’m shooting for having my front end refresh done, but the big fall project is the frame reinforcement, rear shock relocation, and exhaust. Fingers crossed that I actually get that all done...

Have you even ever felt the need for a crawl box? the 5.29s are pretty damn low..

 

Nobody "needs" a crawl box, but everyone needs a crawl box

 

I love my 5.29s! They do great for me for pretty much everything I do with the truck.

I know we all have our own philosophies about our respective builds, but the driving idea behind mine has always been to build it with more capability than I would typically need for the things I do with the truck. Obviously, you have to draw a line somewhere, but it’s very much a ‘better to have it when you need it, rather than need it and not have it’ idea. And since I had the funds at the time, I pulled the trigger.

But before I did, I read a ton on TW and elsewhere, and hearing guys like @malburg114 and @slander say that it is a game changer got my attention. Granted, they’re SAS guys who mostly crawl rocks, but I respect their opinions and their builds.

I guess I’ve just always wanted a badass, super capable, mid-travel IFS rig that can occasionally push the boundaries, whether it’s going fast, or crawling rocks, or camping comfortably.

 

I'd like a crawlbox if I could justify the price tag.

My poor clutch hates me when I'm doing technical wheeling, and it would gave way more control.

You need to wheel a really technical trail Monte and then reevaluate.

 

I’ll be honest, I go back and forth with myself over whether the end state of my truck should be SFA or LT. They both have advantages and disadvantages. But even if I went LT, a crawl box would only enhance things.

Wheel speed is no replacement for the articulation that you get with SFA, but damn would it help in some cases. I’m sure my clutch would appreciate that too!

If it wasn’t in my initial build budget, I sure as hell wouldn’t have one now or probably ever. They certainly aren’t cheap, especially when you factor in shifters, reworked drive lines and a new crossmember.

 

that's fair. Nothing wrong with that. I can imagine one being very very helpful. But can't justify it. Not yet.

Eh, i mean I have a ceramic clutch man. Mine doesn't give a fuck about the abuse like yours does. I mean...too much is still too much, but the ceramic clutch takes abuse WAY better than the stock one does. I can hold the truck up on a very steep hill or situation with just the clutch and it doesn't care.

 

I've been considering a new clutch, but that still doesn't change the fact that you simply can't go slow enough for some obstacles/trails.

I don't care about smoking the clutch, it's about the lack of control.

Come wheel Cliffhanger with me, or Holy Cross, or how about the rock garden on Iron Chest - couldn't let out the clutch for like 1/4 mile, i'd be going too fast.

 

Did you upgrade your clutch because of the SC, Monte, or was it just done and you leveled up?
