Bed-Rail Mounted Spare Tire Carriers - SHOW ME

Whenever I look this up, I see posts from super long ago.

Let's get this updated - I want to see whats out there! Specifically I wanna see some cool stuff within the bed of the truck, no swing-gate tire carriers, no stuff mounted on your roofrack or overland bedracks, etc.

Simple and functional. The cross bar holds my hilift and a spare 35”. I can still see out my rear view mirror, and retain most of my bed space. All the weight is down on the bed, so no need for crazy reinforcements. Another reason I went on the passenger side is to even out the taco lean.

I'm planning a bed rail tire mount project. I want something low profile, so I'm thinking of starting with 2 of these, spaced about 18" apart:

And then running unistrut between the rails in 3 or 4 segments:

No, but I should. I have Sketchup and Revit on my laptop. I should probably model it.

Just looked it up, $265 seems way overpriced, but I’m sure it works.

IIRC this mount has a bad reputation of cracking beds. Maybe it's the side rail one, but I know the ones that mount to a single rail can crack the bed, so be careful and research a bit before you commit.

 

That’s the reason I haven’t bought it yet. I’ve been having a hard time paying that much.

Just put D rings in the bed bolts and strap it down with two ratchet straps. Total cost about $20.

Yes, very expensive and takes up half the bed. But, if you're doing support at races it's a great set up. Very stealthy too if you have the space.

 

Setups like this are getting more popular. Weight of the tire is in a much better place IMO. People are starting to realize that having a 100 lbs tire off the back of the truck isn't ideal for weight distribution. I don't think there is a need for 2 tires unless you're doing some race support or really getting out into the back country.

It does take up bed space so it won't work for everyone.

What do they cost? ADD doesn't have a price on their website and people are willing to put 2k down for a rear swing out to have a place for a tire.

 

I'm not sure on the cost, I've seen SDHQ and they have a setup for $1300 so not cheap. I think the cheapest and easiest is just lay the tire in the bed and strap it down. If you have a long bed and mid size tire, you can get two laying down. Then you can pile shit on top of it.
