And since this occurred I have done everything in my power to to fix the issue. Its not like I'm driving it around at boiling temp every day.

I agree, if it turns out that me removing the radiator caused an issue than it'll bite me in the ass. However, if it is an issue to do with the thermostat, or really anything other than air in my system, I don't see how it is my fault. I get that these trucks aren't really built for real offroading, but a muddy engine bay for 24 hours shouldn't cause serious issues on a fairly new truck

    Have you changed your thermostat?

I have not, when speaking with the service advisor, they did mention that as being one of the first things they will check. If the thermostat went out at 45k miles, I imagine it will be warrantied, and if they say that is the issue and they wont warrantee it, I'll pay whatever the diagnosis costs and do it myself

Hopefully toyota has more luck than jeep has had, they have determined it is not his head gasket. So far they have flushed his system, checked the fain clutch, replaced the thermostat, and checked the head gasket, with no luck finding the issue

My guess is: initially the mud covering your radiator caused overheating. When you took off your radiator to clean it, you introduced air into the system--which is now causing overheating.

That is why i spent so much time attempting to burp the system. I was able to get a lot of air out of the system, but the over heating issue is still there

I'm not trying to be an asshole or anything. In your first post you said you offroaded (not a bad thing, truck is built for that), you got mud in the radiator (also not necessarily a bad thing), and then drove it around until it overheated. This is the point at which Toyota is no longer responsible for any damage. You operated the truck outside of the way it's designed to be operated and caused it to overheat. That's not a manufacturing defect. Toyota is no longer on the hook for anything that follows, especially since you've already disassembled parts to try and fix it yourself. "Burping" the system, blown gaskets, bad thermostat, really anything related to cooling the engine is now your responsibility.

You need a good mechanic to do some basic troubleshooting. Analyze exhaust, analyze oil and coolant, check cooling system for exhaust gases, exchange the coolant properly, check the installation and function of the radiator, fan, and thermostat, do a pressure test, check the water pump.

I feel like you are riding him a little hard especially since he comes off as a guy who is willing to own his part in it.

I think its too early to blame him or the truck at this point. Ultimately, its up to him and his dealer to sort out the responsible party here. But again, he doesnt strike me as a guy who is going to go in and demand Toyota give him a new truck because of this issue.

Of course it could just be a bad ECT sensor and nothing is wrong with the cooling system at all. He tried his best now let's see what the dealer says. Also working on your own vehicle doesn't void the warranty.

Dude we don't even know what's wrong yet. If a water pump failed how is Toyota not on the hook??

To clarify, I have not run the truck with the heat gauge in the red. IThe dash has on two occasions popped up with something along the lines of "coolant temperature high" and the gauge was right up near the red line, and I have in both cases immediately pulled over and shut off the truck. I agree, whatever the issue is, could very well be my fault, I am far from a mechanic, just someone who is attempting to learn, and save money by doing what I can to maintain my vehicle myself. In this situation I am definitely in over my head, which is why I am going to Toyota. If the issue comes back as a stuck thermostat, then I will see if they will warranty it. I have not run the coolant at insane temperatures that should damage anything. The parts in these systems are designed to withstand heat up to the red line, it is there as an indicator to tell you when it is time to shut it down. It is my belief that if a part like that failed at or before the warning light came on, it should be covered. If they discover that there is still air in the system despite my efforts to be rid of it, then I will pay them what they charge for a flush, and be on my way without a complaint. If they start to blame the issue on my modifications, such as the snorkel, 35s, added weight, you can bet that I am going to fight them tooth and nail until they can PROVE to me that any combination of modifications has caused this. Whatever the end result, I am just hoping to get my truck back into good working condition, without being forced onto a diet of ramen for the next month. I am in no way trying to screw over corporate Toyota, or the dealership I bought this truck from.
