Hello, I plan on taking my 18' OR on the beach to surf fish. I do not plan on putting on any mods (Tires or rock sliders)...just using the stock set-up. I'm in the process of getting recovery kit, shovel, traction board... I was planning on getting a Hi lift jack...but there really doesn't seem to be much in the way of jack points. They sell a tire strap for the jack but I'm thinking about just going with a bottle jack and board. So what's a better jack for a stock truck?

Unless you plan on adding sliders and bumpers down the road you may not get much use out of a hilift. Sounds to me like youre already set for beach trips with the traction boards and shovel and a stock jack. You may want to consider an air compressor so you can air down and air back up at the end of your trips.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Air compressor works wonders. Paired with an ARB deflator preferably. Helps in winter too for cold weather members.

i have a 2 gallon air compressor already. Is that too big to use with the 110outlet in the bed? When that compressor kicks on, I gotta imagine it uses a ton of juice. Thanks for the replies

Have you considered an exhaust jack?

That is a nice looking unit. But I have the 110v plug in the bed. Just not sure if my current air compressor would possibly cause any stress or damage to the electrical system

If you can find the manual for it, or sometimes it'll be listed on the compressor itself, look for the amperage draw. And then compare it to what the inverter outlet is on the truck. That will let you know if it can handle it or not. Worse case scenario truck wise you'll pop a fuse. But it could also leave you stranded without air.

I personally use a standard size bottle jack that can fit all trucks. Stock and lifted. I also carry a good amount of cut up 2x4 for dunage for my truck and other lifted trucks.

I also have that exact air compressor. Works great. Comes with a nice bag. The biggest thing is all of that gear can be used with my truck or any other truck that may need it. That's where on board air falls short. The 300 just clips to the battery.

Traction boards aren't a bad idea either. But at least bring some long boards, straps and a shovel.

Go slow. Be cautious. And have fun.
