    Not Taco-related.

The TIG welder I bought, has an issue with initiating an arc. The high frequency start was basically inop. It took me a couple months to finally call AHP and inquire about it. They were really helpful, gave me a couple things to try and said to call them back if it still didn’t work.

So long story short, rather than having me ship the whole machine back, they sent me a part to swap out. It’s the high frequency start board.

Took the covers off and it’s a pretty straight forward swap. Just four 5.5mm nuts and several molex connectors.

Anyways, I swapped the board out and the the machine works like a champ! I considered using it for making the fuse panel bracket, but my skill level isn’t great yet and aluminum is a different animal altogether. Didn’t want to waste any material.

Glad it's working! HF start makes things soooo much easier!

I finished my electrical center. Now I need to find the time to wire it up.

I mounted the SAI controller on there since it was in the way in its original location.

It was a little dark, so this pic is with a flashlight to light it up. The pic didn’t come out too good, but it shows it installed.

Looks bad ass as I would expect from the "Wizard"! Yep, I just coined it!
Is that what that thing is? Secondary injection controller?

I wasn’t exactly sure, so I googled the part number. If OVTune ever gets things going for us 1GR guys, we can ditch that little box!

Have you removed that piece of foam in the air injector? I have heard of 2012+ guys having it shred itself to pieces causing big damage and $$$$ repairs.

I did, and installed one of those mini filters. The Unifilter mod I think is what guys call it.

I donated my Pioneer 4201 headunit and backup camera to the Jetta.

Now the Taco has a vacancy in the dash. Tomorrow that vacancy is getting filled with an Alpine ILX-207.

The area behind the radio in the Taco is a little cramped. One of the great things about the ILX-207 is the form factor. Double-DIN screen with Single-DIN chassis. This makes tucking all of the cables behind the radio much easier.

It’s also getting two new Boyo VTK380HD parking cameras. One flush mounted in the front bumper and one flush mounted in the spare tire carrier.

Why the swap of head units? Lack of backup cam capability?

That is a nice form factor.

Actually the Pioneer had dual inputs for backup cams where the Alpine only has one. The Alpine can actually do three cams, but you have to add their $200 module to it. The way I’m getting around that, is this little gem here:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B155G5M/

What started the whole idea to swap was that I’m swapping to different cameras. I was dreading fighting to get all the wiring to fit back there again. I had seen the form factor of the Alpine a while back and I figured if I’m going to take the radio out, it’s a good opportunity to switch units.

We were wanting to add a backup camera to the Jetta anyways, so being able to use the Pioneer in the Jetta made it a little easier to justify.

Making progress. Got the camera wires all ran, everything wrapped in split loom and Tesa tape for protraction and rattle prevention. All secured to the factory harnesses.

    Got the camera switches installed.

Got the radio mounted into the kit.
