Long story short, I have a 95 3.4L manual trans 4X4.The motor that is in my truck is leaking in both head gaskets. I don't have time to do the head gasket job myself as my work schedule sucks. From doing past head jobs, it takes a good week and half to two weeks for me to complete a head gasket job. That includes the time that it takes the machine shop in my area to receive the head and inspect, machine the gasket surface, clean and replace valves and valve springs. If a shop was to do the work for me, I was looking at $1500-$2000 depending on the severity of the work. The only other source of transportation I have is my Harley, which, lets face it, I cant rely on the weather in Kentucky. So a faster, and cheaper option for me is to swap the motor. I found a used motor that seems to be in decent shape. From what the shop I bought this from told me is that the motor had about 160k miles on it. All cylinder pressure tests were good. So I bought the motor for $860. I will be replacing the valve cover gaskets before the motor goes in. I will also be replacing the timing belt for good measure. Ill give everything a good cleaning before this gets put in as well.

So here are a few questions.
    1. What brand timing belt am I good to use? Stick with OE? If so, part number?
    2. Any recommendations for good motor mounts and trans mounts? Might as well replace while the engine is out.
    3. What brand gaskets should I go with? Again, stick with OE? Looking at a complete gasket set.

Any recommendations that you all can think of while that I should do? Thanks!

    bilstein shocks/struts Add-a-leaf Mostly stock. Running 31x10.5 r15
So, when I did my engine swap (3RZ) I did:
    1) Timing chain kit
    2) Master gasket set (replaced all gaskets except for head gasket)
    3) new injectors
    4) new spark plugs
    5) water pump
    6) distributor cap/rotor (obviously non coil pack engine)
    7) engine mounts
    8) clutch kit with flywheel
    9) master/slave clutch cylinder
    10) engine mounts
    11) Clean up engine bay make it spotless!
    12) Fuel filter
    13) Air filter (obviously)
    14) Oil filter/oil (obviously)
    15) coolant (obviously)
    16) Spark Plug Wires
    17) All belts (A/C, Water Pump, Alternator, Power Steering)

and I am sure I am missing a few things...but those are off the top of my head "While I'm in there" items.

To answer some of your questions:
    1) Timing belt I would go with OEM (type in your VIN in this website and find the part number: https://partsouq.com/)
    2) Motor and trans mounts: OEM 100%
I put in aftermarket ones and it reduced vibration BUT the excessive engine twist from the softer mounts was actually causing my exhaust to leak as it was tweaking it.
    3) Gasket set A/C Delco is pretty good for the price IMO never had an issue with mine. Rockauto.com is a great place for that stuff

Who says you have to lose 4x4 compatibility?

Lol let's not thread jack, but I guess I would say that that is an LS1 vs LS9. 300hp vs 630+hp haha and would need a lot of upgrades to make it work. That would be like fabricating a new truck. That's a badass build though that guy has.

Hey Engine swap experts !! If I wanted to trade out me OEM 2002 3.6 engine for a newer tacoma engine (2nd - 3rd gen) , would
motor mounts and tranny line up? Would hood close?
At moment it's just a curiosity question.

Nope. Not even a 3RZ to 5VZ swap would work.

That’s how most engine swap threads go on here. Rarely have I seen someone follow through unless they have the time, money, and mechanical skill.

Yea it sucks...I feel for them though. They get excited and then just life happens....

I mean my issue with doing a major build is money, I have the other 2 lol

Reviving an old thread....any info by chance on JDM injector vs USDM injector? When I swapped in my motor I sent the JDM injectors out and had them cleaned and then reinstalled them. I have another set of clean stock injectors, just wondering if I should swap them out or if its all good. They are all brown tops.
