My dad owns a trucking company and was recently talking with a Cummins engine big wig. He said the exhaust coming out of the new engines is as clean if not cleaner then the air going in. Particulates aside, just the nox,co2 and other gases.

In all seriousness though, when that does happen how are all these people with Teslas going to get them serviced being what they are? I don't know much about them but it doesn't seem like the kind of car you can just take to your local mom and pop mechanic for certain services.

You're right about that. Tesla is the Apple of the car industry.

No one makes aftermarket parts either.

I'm sure there are some things that are the same as most cars, but the power/drivetrain isn't. Though there are other electric cars out there so it's not entirely unique.

OK class, everyone sit down, it's time for your daily lecture:

It, of course, depends on several factors.

If you're just pumping from sandy layers, the system can recover, and land elevation return to near normal.

But in places like the CA Central Valley there is a LOT of clay in there too. Even if they're pumping from the sand layers, they are de-watering the clay, too. Clay minerals are flat "platey" minerals. Think of the it like a sink of dirty dishes just thrown in all random. The water is stored in that space between the plates. When you pump enough water to dry it out, all those plates get pressed down and lay flat and that reduces the amount of space in between the plates. So even if you pump water back in to the system, there will never be the same amount of storage space.

Since the 1920's areas of the Central Valley have subsideded more than 30 feet in ~50 years. More recent studies show that there are areas subsiding about about a foot a year.

This guy is kind of like the Ryan Gosling of my world. He was the first to relate the subsidence to groundwater withdrawal.
