In my honest opinion I never had an issues with any forrest service roads or just minor "off-roading" I think most people here expect hill climbs and extreme off-roading. But if you just want to get on some dirt and gravel some oversized tires and a winch will get you through just about anything some back roads can throw at you.

My understanding is trailer, especially unbraked, would need to be considered into GVWR.

My understanding is basically what you said - "will simply haul 300 and up to 600 lbs daily similar to how stock hauls zero pounds (well discounting occupants) with little to no sag. That's pretty much what I'm trying to accomplish since the topper is daily weight"

that extra daily load will take away from how much extra payload you haul, since you're technically not supposed to exceed the GVWR.

so as an example, if the curb weight is 4180 lbs, and the GVWR is 5600 lbs, as someone said earlier, and you have a 600 lb topper, which makes your curb weight (4180+600) = 4780, now you could only add 820 lbs in payload, so as not to exceed the GVWR. (5600-4780=820).

*I don't know if these ratings are actually correct, but I'm using them as an example.

    Toyota's website.

    Here's the link
    https://www.toyota.com/tacoma/2017/features/weights_capacities/7544

However, I see that I might have originally selected 4x2 not 4x4 so my original numbers are wrong regarding payload. Still, the question was really about the effect of the leafpack and that's the same regardless of which model.

Also, I don't think the topper is 600lbs. I was told around 250 but didn't get an actual weight.

I think only tongue weight would calculate into GVWR since that's actually weight on the truck. The actual weight of the trailer is mostly on the ground and that's part of the tow rating. Since you can tow something like 6400 lbs with the tow package (obviously would need brakes at that weight) that's already over GVWR so clearly not part of that particular rating.

    That makes sense.

As far as the leaf packs go, let me put it this way: they don't change the GVWR, Payload rating, Tow Rating, or any of that. They only change how much weight you can load in or on the bed, with little to no sag/spring compression.

You're right, truck weight rating (GVWR) + towing capacity = Gross combined weight rating (GCWR).

Wouldn't the payload increase if the leaf pack is the bottleneck? (I'm not saying it is, but hypothetically)

The suspension likely is the bottleneck. The tires and axle are capable of larger loads (up to their ratings) so a better suspension "should" be able to support more weight. If you can daily carry 600lbs without sag then you can likely carry more than the stock payload capacity and exceed the GVWR to a degree.

Probably, assuming the leaf pack is the only bottleneck. I also thought that payload took into account the GVWR. Like if the suspension, brakes, etc, were only made to carry up to the GVWR, then the payload would essentially be the difference between GVWR, and curb weight. If the leafs are the only limiting factor, then yea, replacing the spring with heavier duty ones would increase the payload rating up to whatever the next limiting factor is, i.e. brakes to stop the weight/momentum, axle, or whatever it may be.

I love being able to go off into some trails and not have any problem even with some pretty steep hills with dips in the middle plus got the tire off the ground a couple of times. Stock suspension wit 2” spacers in the front and 1” blocks in the back. Over by Mountain Creek Lake Grand Prairie, Tx https://youtu.be/XFaaCAHhFg0

This is the perfect set up. Someone else wrote about getting a deaver single aal in the rear but you went with the block. What is the advantage/disadvantage?
Coould this set up handle 275's without rubbing?

A block was easiest and cheapest for me at the time. I plan on putting a HS 3leaf AAL in when I put 887 coils up front.

I don't think 275 tires would fit... I wouldn't try it though unless you'd be ok with trimming. With 887 coils, it should be able to?
Right now, I rub a little bit with my setup..but again, a lot depends on the wheels you get. My friend has the same size tires as me (265/70/17) and no lift but different wheels and he doesn't rub. I have 1.5" lift and I do rub..

Thanks, that makes sense. What tires do you have? I'm looking at Falken Wildpeak AT3 - 265/70/16 on stock wheels. Guess I was thinking I could get that other inch off the tires instead of the wheels.
