What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yup I've got a Clarion/Ungo alarm that is made by DEI, same mfg that makes Viper. I love all the cutomizable features but mainly it's the remote start that I love. Love getting into the truck with the AC already cold on hot summer days.

 

Don't need a new stake nut. I replaced mine only because I had added it to an order I placed for other parts and it didn't cost much. Otherwise it's perfectly fine to reuse it.

 

I'll just get one from my local dealer. Its not to far out of my way and its one less rusty part on my truck.

 

This is from the carrier bearing thread. Am I reading this correctly? Torque the stake nut to 134ft lbs, then crack it loose and re torque to 51? Doesn't seem right to me.

 

You gotta seat the bearing, Just do it.

 

It's right, 134 seats it properly and 51 is what's needed to keep it there without the big squeeze

 

Ok. Ive always done the smaller torque value first, broke it loose, then the higher torque value. At least in an industrial application. Thats why I was confused.

 

I guess I'll just leave this here since it won't fit in the garage...

Correct. Seats the bearing. I just hammered the shit out of the nut with my impact, removed it, and then torqued it to the correct spec. Much more elegant ways to do it, but this worked for me.

 

Packed it up for some camping in Wheeling this weekend got about three albums of iron maiden on the iPhone

 

Long drive but it’s the last weekend of bear camp, so it’s worth it

 

Took the sway bar off today. Man it doesn't even make that much of a difference in body roll. I never wanted to take it off cause we drive fast here in SoCal. The difference is not much just like when i had a rear sway bar.

Off it stays I guess. Sucks cause I just replaced the sway bar links & bushings a couple of months ago. Money well wasted!

 

Truck threw a P0705 code....I think it’s because of my reverse lights I added. Anyone have this happen before?

 

I personally have never had that code pop up. Adding reverse lights shouldn't affect any DTCs but it depends what you hooked them up to. What wiring did you tap into? I'm assuming the reverse light wiring, if yes I don't see why that would cause that code to pop up. Could just be a coincidence. I would just reset & see if it comes back up.

 

I warmed up that plastic behind the ashtray with a heat gun.
After I warmed up the plastic, I pressed a steel ball bearing I had lying around where the coax was hitting it. Worked great.

 

Into the stock reverse lights. I also wired it to a switch, and if use the switch it also powers the stock lights and the reverse cam. I think it’s dropping the voltage. I cleared the code for now. I’m out in the woods for the weekend deer hunting. Found a wierd spot with service. Truck is driving fine. Might need to add a diode into the system.
