Burro Shchmidt tunnel NE of Randsburg isn't too far from Cal City. A must drive if you haven't. There's a few trails which cross the mountain range east of Randsburg which you could do almost entire trip on dirt.

Some good dirt highway and climbs east of Cuddyback all the way to Barstow.

Yes, lots of interesting stuff out there. I know Cal City, the Rands, El Paso Mtns., Jawbone, Dove Springs and Ridgecrest/Spangler areas very well. Done them all countless times on my dirt bike, but this will be my first time in a four wheel vehicle.

I am not as familiar with the east side of 395, but I been WFO across Cuddleback and visited the Husky Monument a couple of times. Burro Schmidt has been an annual ride for us at Thanksgiving for over 25 years.

Right now my plans are to camp Cal City Friday night. On Saturday morning, boondock to the Boron Prison, cross 395 and head toward McDonald Well. Then take Hoffman Rd. to Cuddleback and the abandoned airstrip. Set up camp near Cuddleback, or find another spot near Randsburg or maybe Trona Pinnacles and head home on Sunday morning.

Getting excited now, hope the weather cooperates. If its <90 during the day it will be fine. Plugging some GPS co-ordinates into my GPS now...LOL.

Hey hey! It's been a while since I posted here, but thought I'd check in with some news.. I will be selling my Tacoma in the very near future. Why? To make room for this bad boy:

Great weather in the desert this weekend. It even showered on Friday night.

Saturday, I explored the east and west sides of 395 near Cal City. Visited the Boron Prison, only to find it leveled and under private ownership. It used to be a nice destination for our adventures, now it is just another set of concrete slabs in the desert.
