Agreed. My second gen AC was a nightmare. I went through about 3 fans because that pesky pine straw kept getting into the squirrel cage and breaking the fan blades. Toyota finally replaced it with a decent fan (after 3 attempts) and it never gave me another problem. They claimed they had a bunch of bad fans that were the culprit. Apparently they put most of them on my truck. But, second gens never had any problems, did they? LOL

Sorry to be late on this, but is this ECM update for both 4 & 6 cylinders?

Not sure how it will affect mine once its done, but my blower has the death rattle. I can't run it at all without the noise. I get cool air, but I have to wait for it to sort of waft through the cab. lol

I had that rattle 3 times on my second gen. My third gen sounds fine but the AC just seems to have lost some kick. I don’t know, maybe the heat is worse than I thought, but it doesn’t seem to be cooling as well.

Its probably about to go out. 11k seems to be the magic number for these fan motors.

I hate that too. You’d think they would have earned from the previous supplier issues they had with the second gens. The dealer claimed I got an “upgraded” aftermarket fan on my last second gen repair because all 3 of the OEM ones went out at about 7k miles each. The last one held up. There is no sense in these fans doing this. Do you park under any pine straw?

No. I have no idea where it was prior to me buying it. I just got it a few months ago with 11k on it, and the motor started screaming this week, but a guy in that blower thread said his went out at 11k and again at 24k. He said the latest one is supposed to be the new version.

Wow, that sounds similar to my old truck. I hope you get a good one and that you don’t have to deal with it again. I’m just amazed that this issue is still hanging around. I was dealing with this almost 10 years ago on my second gen. But, Toyota is literally terrified of change, even though the fan supplier should have been changed a decade ago.

Nope, not yet, but I plan to. Same here on getting it done. It’s just hard to find time and the stupid parts are not in.

Darn it! While my "stumble" is very small, I do notice it off the line. Oh well.

In New Hampshire currently for work. Went to dealer for the update week n half ago on Thursday. I travel 43 miles 1 way from where I'm staying to where I'm working. I was averaging 21mpg before flash, with slight surging between 40-50mph, and erratic highway shifting. After ecu flash (and almost 800 miles) the erratic highway shifting is completely gone, but the surging is now from 40-65mph, even worse (my fiance got nauseous yesterday when we went to Manchester with how much the truck was hitching/fish biting) but I am averaging 26.7mpg. Dealer has looked at the truck multiple times since flash, double checked rear end, u-joints, driveshaft and reflashed with no luck. S5/6 do not make a difference either and still surges just as bad. Toyota Corporate is now involved as of middle of this past week. Talk about frustrating. 40k for a truck to have non stop Tranny issues for the past 11 months I've owned it. I got my fiance the 2018 4Runner Pro in March, and it's sooooo smooth driving. Kind of wishing they'd had just kept the 4.0 5speeds in these Tacomas. Seems to be way less issues.

I’ve been driving with the TSB for a week now. Made a trip from SF to Monterey and back as well as a trip up in the Hills. Overall I’m happy with the truck even though it could be better. My gas mileage is definitely better, seems about 1.5-2mpg better now. I live in the Bay Area and encounter lots of rolling hills and high winds daily on my commute. Before the TSB I would gas it before hills to force a downshift, now I stay still on the gas and it downshifts right away. Before it had the dead pedal effect and I would lose a bunch of speed before
It would finally down shift. I atribute some of that to the gained MPGs. Losing speed on hills in 6th until it would finally shift down 2 gears. Now it shifts sooner and holds 5th up most hills.
The only negative I’ve encountered is the downshifting from 2-1 when slowing. I never had this happen before but sometimes now it get a thud.
During my trip up into the hills I switched to ECT and the truck was amazing. It was windy slower 45mph up and down hills and in ECT the truck was great. Still averaged 19.2mpg on that trip.
My last tank of gas before the TSB I got 16.7, currently I am at 19.1 on this tank with mixed city and highway.
Very pleased, hopefully it stays like this and doesn’t regress.

I also go to Fred Anderson and they have been great with service. I’m going in Wednesday for my 30K service and the TSB for diff whine, front control arms, and the service campaign for AC blower.

I think that they have improved their customer service in the last 6 to 12 months. They gave me the ECU health check and update without any questions but they were 'unable to duplicate' the diff whine. I have the whine but it is very subtle. At least it is documented in the system now and they offered me the option of driving or riding along with a master tech so that I can duplicate the issue for them. I'll probably take them up on that for my 15k mile service and push for it to be repaired before my 3yr 36k miles are up.

I'll have to go research the front control arm issue, haven't heard of that one yet.

The new calibration is an improvement in the past two days I have been driving with it. I haven't confirmed with a full tank yet, but I think I'm seeing the 1.5-2 mpg improvement overall. Driving in D mode is better and if I need more responsiveness then I'll use S and/or ECT modes like I did in the past.

Flashed this morning. The quick jerks have stopped. Premature shifting is still there but a hell of a lot more smoother. Service rep began to give me crap about CAI but said he will flash due to other customer complaining abut the same this. He made it a point to put this in his note.

He is doing his job. You added an aftermarket CAI and took it in to the dealer. He flashed the ECU and covered his ass with the paperwork.

Agreed. I am not complaining. Its performing better than before. Its funny, he paused next to the exhaust, while walking around the rig and asked if it was factory.

So this TSB 0062-18 won’t solved the performance hesitation on the 2017 TRD OR?
