2006 Toyota Tacoma Short Bed Single Cab
I have a 2006 short bed, single cab and need either a cap or very secure way to protect things in the bed of my truck. I'm new to the pick-up life so any tips and tricks are greatly appreciated!

Only have a couple weeks to get it together, but am willing to travel to NJ/PA/VA/NC/TN to get a cap (for the right price!). Or something like a tarp or cover that will keep my stuff in the bed safe from passerby's thinking it's a snatch-and-run situation (or something they can take a knife to easily).

    Thanks y'all!

A hard tonneau cover (like a Bakflip) that requires the tailgate down to open and a locking tailgate will keep most people honest.

How many things are you trying to protect? You can put a tool box in the bed to protect a few things. FWIW, I have a topper and have had them on trucks for a long time and they are more about dissuading a thief than stopping one. It's pretty easy to break into a topper, it's happened to me a couple of times over the years. Point I'm making is I have bolted and locked boxes inside my topper for things I really don't want stolen.

Pretty sure they don't make a single cab short bed. Make sure you know what you have before you purchase a tonneau or topper.

Not knowing anything about the OP, if she's not young she may be like me. Remember a time when regular cabs came in short and long beds, which were 6' and 7' respectively for Toyota. That option ended in 1992 unfortunately.

If she'd got a Reg cab then she'll need a reg-cab specific cap as the cab is a different shape for the DCLB and the ACLB. Likely a locking toneau cover would be easier to source and no cab fitment issue.

@SWtruckgirl can you confirm bed length of 5' or 6'? Regular cab is generally 6' or do you mean single can doesn't have 4 doors but does have the extra 1/2 cab? Otherwise known as access cab which only comes in 6'. This will help everyone'' search for you .

@Unchained 5150 - what about that Tyger cover you mentioned in the TW express thread?

Free for whoever wants it, but unless she has a lock on the tailgate it won't offer much security.

True...but at least keeps eyes off your stuff. Personally I like my UWS toolbox unless the cap is on.

I have cap on truck bed, but when traveling with high value items I alarm the rear cap window in the event its forced open.

Small 12V alarm battery, siren, switches, time-out circuit board.

Its painfully loud to be in the truck bed when this alarm siren is activated.
