major noob question about tires on a base model

i have a 1999 regular cab base model. i am starting with the tires. my question is how big of a tire can i go with and not have it rub? the current tires on it are 225/70/14. is it possible to put on 305/60/15? i have no lift kit on it...yet. thanks in advance for all your help

 

is it 4x4? or 2x4? i have a 2000 4x4 tacoma ext cab and i have 31'' tires on mine and they dont scrub

 

it's a 2x4.

 

235/75R15 is the largest I believe.

 

i had 225/75/15's on mine before i lifted it and they rubbed a little bit after i took off the swaybar

have you seen a 305/60/15 next to a 225/70/14? BFG on the difference...
im just saying. before i look for the tire size i want i go to the tire shop and look at a tire. just to visualize the size in comparison to my own.

if you have a 2x4 put a 2in body lift on it and then they will fit. put a spacer on the inside to make sure it doesnt rub while in a corner

2x4? That's a piece of lumber lol I think you have a 4x2 atleast that's what Toyota calls them.

 

hmmm,ok. if you notice others referred to it as a 2x4, that's why i put the smiley face there. i actually know what a 2x4 is, i work overnights at home depot. and as i said i am new to this as far as tires are concerned (took auto shop in high school), so yeah i am not sure on sizes. so that's what led me here to find out first before i headed to the store. and by the way, i am a chick thanks for all the answers guys

 

whatever you do, DO NOT GET A BODY LIFT! they are gay and make the truck look like shit when you can see the street from under the bed and above the cab, if you put a lift on it for bigger tires do a spacer or spindle or coil and upper arm just for heavens sake dont do a body lift!

 

4x2, that means SHE can not go off roading like a 4x4, why not get a body lift? spend 300 on that or 700and ^ on a susp. lift.

Not to be a smart ass, but you mentioned about getting new tires and nothing about wheels/rims. If you have 14s and you're looking at 15s, you'll need to get new wheels too. How much are you planning on spending for this project? 235/75R15 are a decent size tire for a 2WD truck. If you want to go bigger, I would start with a suspension lift. Either way, you need to get new wheels with the tires.

Short answer for you Angie: No. They will not fit. As previously mentioned the first problem is that the wheel sizes are different so you will need to buy different wheels if you wish to run those tires. Second issue is the overall size of the tire. The tire you want to run (305/60R15) is about 3 inches taller, 1.5" all the way around, and quite a bit wider. Honestly, the tire might fit. My 4x4 runs 31x10.50R15's stock, which are about 2" larger than the 305/60R15's you want to run on your 4x2. Goodluck on the search.

 

i wasnt saying she goes four wheeling in her 5 lug, i dont but i put a spindle lift on it and it only cost me three hundred, now why spend that much to lift cab off the frame and not keep it where it belongs? and i wasnt demanding her not go get a body lift you wierdy, how in the world am i a bigot for making a suggestion on what looks good? you my sir are a douche and a half.

 

do some research on prices before you comment jackass
