I used to live a mile by the beach in Carlsbad before transferring for work further inland. In socal rust isnt an issue but I surf twice a week for a few hours each time and I plan to transfer back to Carlsbad so do I need to be worried about rust? I notice sand and salt specs in my bed each time i get back from the beach and from my research the frames on the 3rd gen are just as horrible as the other gens when it comes to rust

They probably wouldn't allow you to use Fluid Film in that state! It's probably banned like everything else.

I probably will fluid film it but I'm also concerned about the paint, theres guys on here with already rust eating away at their doors by the sills and such. My 93 had zero rust and it lived in Washington at one point so I'd be pretty pissed if I got rust on this one

Just make sure you keep up with a durable paint sealant and apply it to your door sills and jams.

It’s different everywhere. I’m from the Virgin Islands, we get rust like northern vehicles there. Here on Florida’s west coast, my 12 year old 4Runmer had no rust at all, and more than half its life was spent when I was living waterfront.
It depends on how much salt spray is kicked up in the air I guess, and how far it travels.

Yeah it will rust a lot! Been there. Salty air all year round is probably worse than seasonal road salt

the thing is that sand in the air will scuff your paint (even if you don't see it), then moisture in the air will eventually get in, creating rust spots.

Of course, If you're living right next to the seaside it's gonna be worse than if you live a few miles inland

Fluid film your frame and wax your truck if you want to be safe

If you have any concerns then don't get the truck. Simple. Get something else.
