Yea, thats what most people who couldnt score high enough for the Air Force call it.:D
I kid, I kid. While the Air Force is definitely the easier one of them all, I did have a few semi rough deployments. The hardest one was in Abu Dhabi, the rec room only had three playstations and two X-boxes. The pool table and air hockey table sort of made up for it though.

Whatever you do, pick a job that has transferable skills for when you get out. Much easier to hire someone with a clearance and a skillset than someone who just knows how to bend their index finger.

At the end of the day, no on cares that you jumped out of a plane or fired your weapon. Your medals and awards become a piece of paper and just collect dust in a closet.

Like others have said, pick a high skill job that requires a lot of training and has good paying equal positions in the civilian world. ATC, Medical, Tech (IT and Cyber), etc. Those jobs might not sound super gucci while serving but they will be when you get out.

I would suggest something in the medical field if your ASVAB was good enough. I reenlisted after being a M1A1 tanker into a Surgical Technologist and it is an amazing opportunity to not only have a great experience but to learn so much. I left the Army and started in the civilian field so easily. Hospitals were basically begging for me to accept their offers since I had been in the military.

Also, I then became a Certified Surgical First Assistant and made a substantial amount of money more as well as took on a much greater role during surgery (cauterizing vessels, suturing incisions etc.) I am not in the interviewing process for physician assistant schools after using my GI Bill to get my Bachelor degree. Think about your choices and don't count out the medical side. Armor (tanks) was much more fun sometimes and moral was higher, but I don't regret my decision to transfer into the medical field for even one second. PM me for more in-depth details.

You need higher scores to go into Medical.

Okay... You can always retake the ASVAB. Don’t let anyone push you into anything you aren’t fully invested in and sure about. The bottom line is unless you want to do 20 years find something that’s easily transferrable. Surgery will never go away. Much better than most medical jobs for sure.

I’m guessing with a 96 on the ASVAB the rest of the line scores are high enough to qualify for any job available.

They can always make exceptions if you really push the recruiter.

Join the Marines and be a MOS 2111

I was a 2111 at MCAS El Toro with MWSG-37 and really enjoyed it , You get to work on Small Arms weapons and perform maintenance and repair . I was the only one in my armory and I picked up rank quickly and within 2 years got promoted to Corporal

Im not saying it cannot be retaken, but, I believe he needs 101/107 to do 68c or 68w. Besides, I think he wanted a "tech" mos.

Surgical Technologist is a “tech” plus you get to improve people’s health, mobility, and lives. Again, I enjoyed being a tanker, but medicine is where the marketability is at when you finish your enlistment from a job security/pay perspective. Plus you can advance in your career like I have if you have what it takes.

After rereading his posts, I see you are already in college. Navy has a Nurse Candidate Program. They will pay for the rest of your schooling, give you a stipend, and finish school as an RN. Go into the Navy as an Officer, 4 or 5 year commitment. Believe me, RNs make decent bank. They will also pay for ongoing ed also, I believe. So a PA is a possibility. I enjoyed my medical career. I followed in the footsteps of my fams history though. Im 504th, my dad was 504th, my grandpa was 504th.

If you are enlisting, you will select from jobs that are open to you based on the needs of the army and what you like, after you are done with the qualification process.

If there is something you really want, you better tell the recruiter before you go to MEPS .

I was a recruiter for 3 years and everyone who qualified got a good job, from 99 QT to 32, college degree to GED. It's all good .

I'm retired now .I joined as a 19K then changed after one term. Did instructor duty then recruiter duty then POG duty the last few years .

    Have fun .

BTW, I left my car with a nephew who used it untill i could get it . Kept it insured .It was a sweet Cutlass Supreme. Lol . I also let family use it when overseas . I sold it to a Marine when it was about 18 years old at about 200k. Heh .

If you were a 19K than you know what I’m talking about! Anyway, the needs of the Army are important... To the Army.

You don’t have to enlist if you don’t want that particular MOS. You are a civilian until you sign the paperwork. This is your chance to negotiate what job you want.

I wish to God someone had said the things to me I’m saying to you. I was f’ing clueless. I enjoyed my time but I found what is was doing doing interesting thankfully. You can dictate your future as a civilian. Once you are signed up it’s much harder to be flexible.

Find what you want and don’t waiver from that or you may hate it and you can’t easily change it! Take your time and find what meets your needs not the Army’s or anyone else’s.

I think you’re confusing overall score with line scores. If he scored a 96 overall then his individual line scores (which are what really matters) are most likely high enough to qualify for any job.

    1. Contact your nearest dealer and ask them for information about vehicle storage. Also contact USAA and get information about getting insurance and also ask them about vehicle storage. USAA will be your best friend once you've enlisted. Keep the truck and keep making your payments because you'll be able to bring it home once you get your first duty station.

    2. INTEL. Any intelligence MOS will set you up for success. Top Secret clearance will follow you forever if you qualify. Get into school and finish your degree as quickly as possible. You Army career will benefit and you will make bank in the civilian sector. You should have no problem finding work. As a backup, aviation is a great career builder also. DO NOT get talked into any combat MOS. Infantry, Combat Engineers, Armored Cav, Artillery. They will chew you up and spit you. Your mental and physical health will suffer. It's not worth it.

    3. Go with the shortest enlistment option you can get by with. There's a chance you may hate the Army and no enlistment bonus in the world is going to make the shitty days any better. You can always reenlist, but once you're in the civilian world no one will give a shit how many years you were in. Get a college degree and get the fuck out.
