anyone else getting these kind of MPG numbers?

according to my iphone app i got 28.86 mpg on my last tank and the tank before that was 27.96 mpg.

this was mostly city and with some highway driving.

i've checked my numbers many times. This is for real.

anyone else getting these kind of numbers?

Mainly, how do you track your mileage between fill-ups?

Doesn't seem likely.

I've used my iphone app (roadtrip lite) for EVERY fill up since I purchased my 2010 doublecab (December) and have been consistently between 19.2 and 20.6 mpg. When I'm cognizant of my driving style, I get the higher mpg values. I'm confident that if I were focused, I could crack 21mpg, but I didn't buy a Tacoma because I wanted stellar gas mileage (that's why I kept my hatchback).

Did you check your numbers (inputs) as well as math? Could be that there is a faulty gas pump or odometer at work here (though a ~30% error seems incredibly unlikely).

Just a thought... On your app, do you input how much you paid for a tank of gas or how many gallons you bought? Perhaps a shift in price that you neglect to input makes your app assume a previous price and therefore inaccurate volume ==> wrong mpg.

Another thought...could you have swapped from mpg to kmpg without realizing it? 18mpg = 29 km/gal. Seems unlikely b/c I imagine that if your app measures distance in metric, it would similarly use L for volume.

In any event, if you are confident that what you are getting is the real deal, congrats! My gut tells me you will do some investigating and find that one way or another, something in that figure is wrong. I'd love for somebody to chime in and call me a moron, provided they can give me tips on how I can similarly boost my mileage (previous comment about not caring about my mileage not withstanding).

Is there an engine in a 2nd gen Tacoma you are aware of that could do this?

 

i got 22.5 MPG on my last tank. Got 420 miles out of it and filled up 18.7 gallons!

Sounds a bit unreal. I'm assuming since your in the Great White North that your actual data is in kilometers and liters (or litres ). Might want to try posting that data and let the bored math heads around here confirm the numbers.

 

no, i am definitely not getting those numbers.

 

assuming all the math is correct, it's possible. ol' Wadsworth claims to be in the 30's as well as an admitted hypermiler.

i've hit in the 27's before. they key is to not get crazy on the highway. i do 75-80 which hurts it a tad.

 

Did you use the US Gallon or the Imp. Gallon for your calculations?

10 L/100km = 23.52 US MPG and 28.248 Imp. MPG

I haven't checked mine in a long time.....nothing ever better than 15 MPG, and that's using 89 octane.

 

I use "road trip LE"

everytime I fill up it I type in how much fuel I put in and my odometer reading and the price per liter.

the program converts it to MPG

do you have it set to input miles not km by any chance?

 

if your gonna put up your mpg at least put up your engine size.... also what model truck you have... the engine size will make a BIG difference...and if its a base model 5 lugger 4cyl or AC 4cyl... We need more details
