The camp ranger dude, Mike (not director bitch) said there are a couple of private sites that they operate just around the corner. Next time we should see if we they’ll let us shoot over there for a truck group photo op!

He showed me those last year. It’s two parking lots for 15 cars each, and one spot for 30 tents and only 1 fire pit. He keeps pushing that off on us but that’s not what we are looking for. You can’t sleep in your truck only floor tents next to each other. There’s no privacy.

    Totally agree!!!

Do you possibly have that video of me coming up? I think you were using your phone doing that video shoot?

Yeah, I felt pretty bad when that bush just tore away your bumper. :pout: The advantage of having a smaller vehicle helped in that particular spot with having to turn around. :D:p Both you and Jimbo @NotRed had a little bit of a hard time turning around there and that damn cactus being where it was didn't help matters either. Running that over would have been a PITA on the tires.

Is your mobile radio still working? I'm thinking that your radio went into some "thermal shutdown protection" so that it doesn't go into a meltdown? So, if your radio is, say 55W, then dial it down to the next higher wattage (i.e. 35W, 25W, etc). Only use the HIGH wattage setting when attempting to reach REALLY FAR and/or as far as your setup is able to keeping your TX'ing to as much of a minimum as much as possible. Then dial it back down to a lower wattage output. My 2m Yaesu is 55W max output, which I used the max output in order to reach Lance. I probably could have attempted to use the next lower setting, but since they were far off in the distance, I just went max power. :muscleflexing:

Anyways... I'm thinking that is why your mobile radio didn't work at first?

To all the guys running HIGH wattage mobile radios, +25W... I recommend to only use the HIGHEST output power ONLY when needed to reach someone that you KNOW is far off in the distance and keep your transmissions as short as possible on the HIGHEST output power setting. You'd be surprised how even 25W can reach pretty far out there!!!

Finally, the key to any radio system is NOT necessarily how much wattage your radio outputs, it's the antenna system!!!:muscleflexing: Your radio setup could be a 100W or 1000W or whatever ridiculous wattage it is capable of doing, but if it is on an extremely shi**y antenna system, you might as well have some 1W system. You guys need to keep this in mind!!!:fistbump:

I beg to differ. He can still get stuck. 3 of 5 trucks needed the winch for the gatekeeper. Not a passing rate but at least we only had to use it for that one obstacle.
