    hey guys

I have placed everything where I believe it should go. The last thing to do is wire up the power red wire for my fog lights. This is going into my base model 2nd gen taco. Any help is appreciated. I do not want to mess up my wiring. I’m sure this is super simple for you guys but it’s spagghetti to me!

Where does the red wire go???

First off, do you know what the wire does? Does it just light up the switch?

I believe this red wire powers the fog light circuit.

I’m gonna let one of our tw experts answer this. I’d hate to point you in the wrong direction. I feel as though it should have power from the battery but not sure

It goes through a relay inside the engine bay. I believe it works in line with the other switch inside the cab

Videos I’ve seen online say to buy an add a circuit fuse... u guys think that will be sufficient?

Thanks. I did not understand what you meant at the time. It wasn’t until I watched a you tube video that I figured it out. I think you are correct though. I’ll but one and see how it goes. Thanks!

How do you want the fog lights to work?

If you use an add-a-fuse and put it in an always on slot you would be able to switch them on/off at any time- try those empty slots or the Dr/Lck fuse.

Put the add-a-fuse in a switched slot (only 12v with the key on) and your fogs will work when the truck is on but can't be left on- ACC 7.5 works this way.

Go to the under the hood fuse box with it and use it on the hi beam fuse and they will only come on when the highbeams are on - that's how you do driving lights.

I agree. I would personally do it to the outlet fuse

I want the fog light to work anytime. How do I know what fuse to use if is in a blank spot?

    If you are just using an always on/ anytime use one of the empty slots with only a fuse in the top spot of the add-a-fuse;

Doing it this way means it's going to be possible to forget them on and kill the battery.. Keep that in mind..

I’m my opinion if the fog lights draw more than a couple amps you might be better off running that red wire, through an in-line fuse, back to the battery. You mentioned you’re okay with being able to turn on the fog lights anytime so powering directly from the battery will do.
I’m not a big fan of the add-a-fuse for high current circuits since it puts additional electrical stress on the tapped circuit. You also run the possibility of overloading the wiring if you install the add-a-fuse backwards.
If you decide to go with the add-a-fuse just make sure with the “original” fuse removed from the add-a-fuse that the fog lights do not receive power. If they do flip the add-a-fuse around then install the “original” fuse.

With my very limited electrical abilities I will probably stick with the ad a fuse for now. I’m not sure how I would go about wiring directly to the battery without messing up the existing wire harness ie the inline fuse and the relay that both reside in the engine bay already.

Giving the wiring diagram (which isn’t very good) a second lookover it appears the white wire connected to the inline fuse should connect to the battery positive. What did you connect that white wire to?
If the white wire connects to the battery positive then the red wire likely energizes the relay coil (this would be low current and okay to go through the add-a-fuse). The only way to know for sure would be to ohm it out since the connections within the harness aren’t shown on the diagram.
