    Morning humans! Happy Monday.
Finally happened this weekend; I had to turn the pellet stove on yesterday morning. 38 degrees out and apparently we forgot to close the windows in the living room Saturday night (oops) so it was a brisk 56 in the house when I got up. Figured if I was going to get the GF out of bed before noon I'd better warm the building up a bit

The most frustrating part, for me anyways, was climbing to the top and having to wait in a long line to get my picture at the actual summit behind all the guys who drove up. Otherwise, it's a huge area so it's easy to avoid the crowds.
There's a cabin about a mile and a half from the summit that's great to stop and hang out in. You can actually go to another peak very quickly from there that does not have vehicle traffic. It's not Mt. Washington, but it's close and no tourists. Hiking it was definitely worth it. Plus, all you have to do is hang on the trail 10' from the summit and none of the tourists will bother you. The views you get on the way up are awesome and you definitely can't get them in a car.

Yeah, was about 45, when I left the house. And we have no insulation other than the rooms I've already renovated.

You slowly going through the house? Winter will be tough without insulation. I have a little electric heater for the bathroom where no heat goes and the worst heat loss occurs. Do you have a pellet or wood stove to help offset the heat costs?

Yup, I smelled smoke, looked up and saw it.

Lake of the Clouds if you go up the Ammonoosuc? That's a nice spot.

Last time I did it, I went up Jefferson, Clay, Washington, down the Ammonoosuc, and walked back up Jefferson Notch Rd. to where I parked. That was awfully long, I mostly hated the walking up the road part.

Morning all, hope everyone had a good weekend.

Managed to screw the truck up this Saturday. Was going to add some 1/4 spacers to the front suspension to level it out a little. Everything was going ok until the nuts that hold the top of the strut on didn't want to come off. I managed to get one off but the other two did nor fair well. One stud is now spinning in the top hat with the nut about half way off and the nut in the back has started to strip in the sockets. I'm kind of at a loss here on my next move. What might be the best way to fix this nightmare? I can probably cut the stud that spins off, knowing that it needs to be replaced anyways. But he rear one I'm completely blind to, can't see what it going on.

Had family drive up when I was 3/4 the way up, hot lunch was waiting. It's fun to drive and a blast to hike to enjoy the scenery. People that can't drive make it a horrible sometimes, staying in the middle of the tiny road uggg

well first day driving the new wheels/tires on the highway, got a little bit of shaking that will come and go through the steering wheel........not certain it's due to the balance? thinking about picking up some hub centric rings

We hiked up the Ammonoosuc and I can't remember the trail we came down. The Ammonoosuc wouldn't be fun to come down. We took a more 'out and around' trail on the way down but ended up across the street from the parking lot we started in.

It is the Lake in the Clouds cabin. That was a really cool spot. It was crazy to see the people hiking the supplies down to the cabin. They were really loaded down for the hike down from the summit and that's a really rocky trail. Made me wonder how many times they dump their packs in a given season.

I'll have been in my house for 6 years in a month and I haven't burned that much yet.

Jeez. You guys are reminding me of why I burn wood

I put 100 gallons in the tank about every 8-9 months or so, since our hot water runs off of the boiler. Honestly if I didn't keep it switched on during the winter as a backup in case we aren't home to fill the stove some evening I'd totally just switch off & drain the whole boiler system and install an electric unit for hot water.

Yea we burn wood and have a ductless air unit for while we are home. Just use the oil to keep the pipes from freezing. We usually start with a full tank and make it to about February using 3/4 a tank and get the tank filled again to finish out the season

I heat exclusively with oil but I only get 2 fills in a typical year, so that is less than 400 gallons a year since it's usually like 180 gallons each time I fill it. And I fill it in the height of summer when the price is lowest. Wish I had a wood or pellet stove to supplement with.

Once I'm completely insulated, and all my mechanical stuff is done, I won't burn much.

Hoping to install a new boiler this fall, but, it isn't a priority.

All in stages... Sucks. But, it'll be worth it.
