So that one's about parking lot crawling, not surge/stutter per se. If I get this TSB will I get the good tune?

Who knows? I am guessing that it is the same files. It'd be good to have a look at them.

The fact is it should be easier for everyone to go to the dealer now.

It should be the same software.

Give it time. There may be 2018 files associated with it, or on the way. 2018s won't be left out in the cold.

Sweet! So is this the same ECU update as the 40-50 mph surge just packaged differently.

    Yup.
According to the service guy I talked to, that’s correct.

Before I found out the update they did was 0125-18, I told the guy I was surprised they did it because the T-SB said it was for the auto (that’s when I thought they’d done 0058-18).
He said, “we did the latest one, which is the same thing”.

He also told me that my truck was the first 3rd gen MT he’d ever seen. One of the other service guy walked over to look at it and said that was a first one he’d seen too.
It kinda makes me sad that MTs are so rare. Next time I need a new truck, they probably won’t be available with a manual transmission.

Yeah I’m hanging onto my truck forever probably. Thanks for the info.

Same here. That’s the plan anyway.
My daughter says she wants my truck when she starts driving. I don’t have the heart to tell her “hell no”.
I’ll have to start trying to talk her into other options. There’s still a good bit of time before that happens, but she loves off-roading and camping, so I’m sure it’ll be a Tacoma or a Jeep.

When I drove off from the dealer yesterday, my initial though was “meh”. It’s hard to know what to expect because what you hear on the interwebz from different people can vary. It did seem smoother though.

After having some time to drive around later yesterday evening, my thoughts are...holy shit. This thing is soooo much smoother. The throttle response is much better. When I floor it, the power delivery is way more uniform. It isn’t full of dead spots like it was before.
I don’t find there’s any more power, and I never expected that to be the case. It was just slightly annoying when I used to accelerate and you could feel the dips in power, followed by surges in power.
This update...this is how the truck should’ve come. This is the minimum of what I would’ve expected from a new truck. Of course I’m sure there’s still room for improvement, but this is still better that before.

Also, my alignment was fucked before I dropped it off at the dealer.
So... between a fresh alignment and the ECU update, I feel like I’m in a different truck today and it’s great. :D

I'm gonna print the new TSB off and will be armed with that info tomorrow morning when I take my truck to the new dealer. I will keep you guys posted. Hopefully they are better than the last jack wagons!

Going to call about it tomorrow, I have enough to give them from this thread that any dealership worth a sh*t will figure it out...

... Well guys keeping my balls crossed Lol! The guy at the service desk even mentioned an update. I had the TSB printed but didn’t have to give it to him.

Just hoping for the best and if not at least there is plan B!

Ok guys, just to give a follow up after driving this beast for a couple of days.

It is certainly less twitchy. The biggest improvements seem to be the 1st to 2nd shift as well as low speed puttering through parking lots. Much less jumpy and rough. I also noticed a smoother acceleration when I get on the gas. I do use the "Fuelly" app so I will keep you guys posted on the MPGs.

I usually let my wife drive the truck about once a month or so to keep her sharp driving a manual and she drove it Saturday night to dinner. I didn't tell her the truck had been updated and noticed as a passenger how much smoother her shifting was. She even commented on how it felt better. That confirmed this to be more than the placebo effect!

Thanks all for your contributions to making this forum the best!

I'd love to hear some more feedback from those with 2018 trucks. When I first had mine flashed, I thought there was a slight improvement in driveability and a more noticeable improvement in the smoothness of the shifts. As I now have over 500miles on the new 4A7100 update, it appears that the stumble is the same as before the update. Between 2000 and 2500 rpms, it still hesitates and stumbles a bit - not horrible, but not what I expect from Toyota. I am going to try a tank of 91 octane E0 as soon as I get down below 1/4 tank. I am really curious as to the difference between the B1300 tune for the 2016-2017 models and the 4A7100 for the 2018's. I understand that any update would have to have as good or better emissions and mileage in order to meet the EPA requirements, but I would expect Toyota engineers could do better than this. I can live with it, but I may be a candidate for an OV Tune in the future.
