I am doing some research on a possible buy and have included Certified Pre-Owned Tacoma in my search. They list CPO warranty as 1y/12K plus extended power train warranty. My question is, if the factory warranty is 3y/36K and for example the 2018 CPO truck still has 2 years left, wouldn't the factory bumper to bumper warranty override the 1 year CPO warranty? Does the CPO warranty terms mean that I will lose the longer factory bumper to bumper warranty and be left with just 1 year of CPO comprehensive warranty on a one year old truck?

Are you sure he CPO isn’t in addition to the factory. I have only bought one CPO vehicle. A BMW 3 series. Got one year free maintanence and warranty till 80k miles. In a BMW that’s an enourmous money saving agreement. i can’t see Toyota giving a worse than factory CPO warranty, but what do I know.

Your 1yr/12k cpo is added to the factory 3yr/36k if it hasn't expired yet, in cases new car warranty is already expired (like if the truck has 38k miles already) then you only get the 1yr.

    So now you have:

4yr/48k new car warranty (from original date of purchase)
7yr/100k powertrain warranty (from original date of purchase)

That's great. Even though the CPO price is close to the new price, the extended warranty makes the CPO trucks a decent buy (if you can find one with low mileage).

Be sure to understand that CPO doesn't necessarily mean certified by Toyota. There are plenty of 3rd party CPO policies out there that dealerships have included in the price of the used vehicle. They don't offer it for free, so ask who underwrites the CPO warranty they are offering.

    Good luck.

I would only get CPO from a Toyota dealer.

here is the brochure for Toyota cpo program. now if you haven't bought the used vehicle, I would strongly look into dropping the cpo charge (roughly 1000-1500 charge) and getting the used vsa agreement (has to be bought at time of purchase though). you can get this up to 5yrs/60k from date/mileage of purchase.

According to the brochure, the CPO 1 year comprehensive warranty starts with the purchase of the CPO vehicle. I couldn't find anywhere that it is added to the factory warranty if the car is still covered under it.

    None....yet
@NoDak - is there a reasonable price range for the CPO VSA - dealer quoted me 2700 which seems high compared to the new VSA prices but I can't find many online price references for the CPO VSA.
