I took mine to Carver Toyota in Columbus IN for the rear diff howl and the shifting TSB. When I made the service appointment I told them I did some of my own research and found the TSB's that exactly describes the issue I was having and gave them the #'s. Went in with copies of the TSB's they said they didn't need them. They said they needed to confirm the issue by a technician doing a test drive. Few hours later got the call that they confirmed the issue and parts were being ordered. Been about 2 weeks and am still waiting on parts they said the ECU flash will be done when the parts for the diff howl are installed.

    nothing just gas & go
Carver is where I purchased mine,17 White OFF ROAD premium pkg I will wait & see how you do with them. They have been nothing but great to deal/trade with, I just go to Royal for the free Toyota service be cause its close to me . I think the hesititation is not engine related as much as its the transmission (or the computer telling the transmission what to do) it seems to always be in to hi of a gear & when I give it gas to go it has to decide what gear its in then keep trying gears until it finds the one it needs & by the time that happens someone is usually on your bumper. I'm 64 years old a Tacoma owner for many years I do love the truck except for the hesitation. I will try & upload my copy of the service receipt in a follow up post. until then this is what it says . Customer states upon acceleration the car seems to stubble-----check for TSB ( I said stumble not stubble )
Found No DTC S or faults @ this time
Found a TSB but it is for high Altitude areas
    Does not apply here

The TSB's I am having done are TSB-0013-18 for the rear diff whine noise, and TSB-0077-16 Rev 1 ECM Calibration : Shift Feeling Enhancements. In reading the MANY posts about these issues it seems the one for high altitude (0062-18) and this one (0077-16) are the same. I read it on the internet so it MUST be true!

I bought my 2002 Subaru Outback Sedan at Royal way back in '02 had a good experience with them on purchase but never had any service work done except 1 recall for a loose cruse control cable. Way off topic but that car has been great. 250k and still my daily driver. The daughter gets it this year as she gets her license in October. Would have got another Subaru but not a fan of the new outback designs being more crossover styling.

I think you need to read a little closer. 0077-16 IS NOT the same as 0062-18.

T-SB-0058-18 is the same. Same Cal ID after the updates are ran

    Thanks for the clarification!

    For the 2016 and 2017
I see that after 0077-16 the Cal ID should be 8966304B0300
and after 0062-18 the Cal ID should be 8966304B0400

I wonder if the flash system will automatically upload the latest Calibration or if they are truly different calibrations and they pick the one based on the TSB.....

Dropping my truck off this evening for dealer to do 0062-18. They said they'd have to diagnose it first. Is there any documentation I should take with me to help my case?

I am getting 21+mpg in town pretty consistently now, with a mix of relaxed driving and "Get the f=hell out of my way!" I guess it is a combination of the update and the truck learning my habits? I am taking a long drive tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see how that goes.

Had mine done 3 days ago and did a 4 hour trip. City driving it shifts much better. Pretty much feels like i have the ECT button on. Highway its still the same. Still rapid downshifts

You automatically get the latest update, no matter what. People bring in 58 if they're not in high altitude areas, and think the dealership would give them a hard time

I just did it last week in Vancouver. The dude behind the desk told me that the manager would have to come with me and confirm. I asked him if he as going to ride across that Coquihalla with me....

Manager never went for the ride. He knew of the issue and took it right in.

    It’s like a new truck.

    Thanks Slowboater.
Did you give them the American 0062-18 or the Canadian number of T-TCI-5143?
My guys said they couldn't find anything using the 0062-18 and couldn't confirm the symptoms. Didn't get a reply when I asked if they'd taken it to the mountains.

Has anyone had the re flash and not been impressed with the results? I had the 0058-18 done and really don’t notice a difference.

Driving to the mountains, whenever I hit an incline on the highway, I start to lose speed. When I press the gas more it downshifts hard. If I let up a little bit, it upshifts and I’m back to losing speed. It’s so frustrating and my least favorite thing about this truck.

I’d be curious to see your calibration ID because IF they reflashed it, you would notice a difference. The first place I noticed it was the hills. It was very much improved. I wonder if they just yours at first blush like they did mine and then said it was ok.

They gave me a summary report that says they re flashed. They also hedged by saying it still may be quirky for a while because I only have 2000 miles on my truck.

I’m tempted to buy one of those ECU readers to see if they actually did...

The guy behind the desk was clueless but the service manager - Robert (Bob) Dent knew exactly what I was talking about. He said there were 3 TSB,s with the latest being July 31.

    Rdent@jpautogroup.com. 604-687-4443.

They were not super receptive until they realized I knew what I was talking about. I also told them my wife was afraid to drive the truck because it shifted so erratically going over the pass. It was obvious I wasn’t going to give up.
