That's good. Keep doing that cause there's no one they can say "can't confirm customer complaint" if they're in the vehicle when you say "there it is".

Do you have 4 repair orders? Or maybe 30 days of documentation its been at the dealer for repair? The number of days might be different for NM but you get the idea.

Gonna need 4 attempts at repair for a true lemon law buyback. But you can probably get it done in less. I would at least let them try to fix it one more time before asking for a buyback.

That's what I figured. With just one attempt at a repair, lemon law is a ways off yet. Right now, yes, the plan is to let them keep trying to fix the problem.

My worry is that they can't fix it (I know that's out of my control at this point). Others that have had this problem had the diff replaced and still have the noise. I've read of some that eventually got it fixed, as well.

I'm just so disgusted after nearly two months of going through this that i thought I'd ask here to explore options. Four fix attempts or one, two months is a long time to have to get something like this figured out. This affects travel plans and scheduling, etc. In addition to simply being a giant pita. Seems like this shouldn't even be legal.

In hindsight, I shoulda asked for a rental on day 1.

I deal with this from time to time. Believe me, I want to fix the problem and move on. But sometimes, it doesn't happen like that.

I am guessing Toyota has an escalation process which is why you should get their customer care involved. Definitely tell them about your experience and how it's affected your perception of the brand.

Yep. Much better after TSB 58-18 (thanks, Toyota!) but it's still obnoxious driving in D (just my opinion). I drive in S modes most of the time now.

There are 3 TSBs related to the rear howling: the squeaky leaf springs, the rear body mounts, and the diff itself. Each has multiple solutions, so the dealer performing only one may not be sufficient. The howling is most likely harmonic frequencies between the diff, springs, axles, and/or body.

Dealer/Regional Corp told me my truck already has the "updated" springs and in-cab sound deadener so they wouldn't be going that route. They did unsuccessfully change the cab mounts to the TSB ones.

I'm not doubting you; we've talked about this before. I just wanted to get the info out there, especially for 16 and 17 owners. Usually what I've seen/heard, when the diff howl persists, it's the diff or axles. Hope everything works out, because these trucks are awesome. I've done my fair share of whining on here, but my dealer's taken care of me, and all the TSBs have improved my ownership experience.

There is only one TSB for the whine. Depending on bed length that TSB might get you knew springs. It also gets you dynamic damper for the cab mounts and sound deadening foam.

The squeaky leaf springs have nothing to do with the howl and is a separate TSB. Although I imagine they probably are the same as the one in the howl TSB. Kill two birds with one stone maybe!

What’s the 3rd TSB you are talking about? Is that the rear axel one that may cause noise as well?

We all agree it’s harmonics. Something just works together perfectly on some rigs to make that lovely howl ha

The cab deadener for the TSB is thin foam that goes in the c pillar. It does nothing to help with the noise lol I added about 3 times the amount in each c pillar the last time I had the rear interior pulled apart.

Also, a few guys on here had only the springs installed at first since the other parts were on back order at the time. I believe both said for them the springs did not help quiet the noise. That’s only a couple examples though.

I couldn't believe it when I saw pics of the sound proofer for the C-pillars. Hardly seems worth the effort. Sticking a bath towel in there might have been more effective.

I noticed my leaf packs have a round disk inserted toward the ends. From the factory. Is that a recent update??
(Ie. Is this the squeaky spring fix?)

Hmm maybe yours came with the squeaky leaf spring TSB from the factory? Hmm I need to check out my 2018. Don’t think I’ve noticed pads in there before and I’ve been under my truck quite a bit.

I'll check again tomorrow to verify. But pretty sure I saw a black plastic or rubber disk between a couple leaves toward the front end of each pack. When they told me that my truck would not be getting new packs, I assumed it was because I already had these pads installed.
