THIS is exactly what all these youtube videos should be showing - situations where a skilled driver tries to do something themself and fails, then tries again with crawl control.

And to those who say it's "smoother", based on the times I've tried mine out, it is NOT smoother than me, by a long shot. That's my biggest issue with it actually - it's SO jerky. I'll take MTS with my right foot over crawl control every time.

crawl control at the slowest speed is unusable. it's like it nudges itself forward a foot or two every second.

Crawl control sounds horrendous when activated. I have yet to need it offroad but it’s nice to have if I ever sink my truck in the sand.

The marlin crawl approach works but it's slow. If you gave the truck any gas you would start grenading driveline parts. A 580 ratio is generating ludicrous amounts of torque. It works great at idle but I would rather be triple locked and giving it some gas over obstacles.

Make for easy technical rock crawling and less shock loading on the drivetrain . also no need for heavy throttle input as the extreme low gearing aids in traction

Look at some of the old Marlin Crawler videos showing Marlin making a hard trail look easy !!! . back in the early 90's I first met Marlin on a CA4WDC event " Panamint Valley Days "

The trail we were on was Surprise Canyon which is winch exercise up 7 active rocky waterfalls . Marlin made it look very easy climbing up and over those wet boulders . I've also seen him on the Fordyce Creek trail and Rubicon and again while other vehicles are struggling he makes it look easy

When I first met Marlin I had a 68 M38A1 Jeep Rock Crawler that was geared at 124:1 low range and I could easily crawl over Nasty boulder strewn trails but not as easy as Marlin

@BigMike could answer your questions more !!!

No, you need to be on something really friggin steep....like scary steep. Crawl control on level ground is moronic.

Got so stuck in sand and crawl control saved my life. Was deep in Baja Mexico and I don't know a lick of Spanish

Valid point, but only uphill. Downhill is even worse than flat ground.

Not in my experience. On very steep decents, I find CC smooths right out as well. You just need the grade to be severe enough. I can’t remember if I’ve ever descended in CC speed notch 1, but certainly have used it succefully and smoothly on the downhill.

Every truck is likely different. I have a canopy on mine so maybe the extra weight is a factor.

I guess for my purposes, it's really only the lowest one or two settings that I'd ever have much interest in using anyway, so it sounds like we're just talking about opposite ends of the spectrum.

To be honest I've used it a couple times but I'm not a very experienced off road person. It dug me out of sand in a wash once before I knew recovery gear was a thing and saved me because I have no idea what a correct line is. I will prob keep using it until I get more experience and I think for that purpose alone its great.
