Anyone know of a mod to pad the door armrest that Toyota still seems not to know how to?

Someone in the 'what have you done to your 3rd gen today' thread (apologies for not being able to give credit where due) put one of these on and seemed to be happy with it (I had added to my wish list). 'Issyzone Center Console Cover Lid for Toyota Tacoma 2016 2017 2018 Armrest Cover Protector', found on the jungle site. I do not have one but you may be able to find it if on a PC and searching that thread for it. You could ask for a review if you find the OP.

Reread your post asking for the door. If you want the center console I've got you covered. I understand though how your elbow could get sore on long trips.

I just wish the center console lid went further back than 90 degrees. Makes getting stuff out harder than it needs to be.

Yeah, the door arm rests are a little skimpy on the padding. Wish it was like the center console ... PADDED!

You are supposed to hang onto the wheel with the left hand, not rest your damn arm on the door. And if your left elbow is hurtin', why not drive like Detroiters do? Hang your body over into the passenger seat with your left hand on the right side of the wheel.

Well how about leaning the seat all the way back and using front facing cameras to see and using knees to steer?

But no. Your supposed to hold the wheel with BOTH hands at 10 & 2. Some reports are now saying 4 & 8 because of air bags.

If both hands are on the wheel then how does one with a MT shift? Use their tongue?

Come on now don't be trying to use logic on us.

I just did this this past weekend. 2nd gen but the install/ removal is the same (drilling/plastic welding). When you reupholster, you can add as much or as little padding as you want.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-repair-replace-door-panel-inserts.569634/

There was a video on youtube for the same process on a 3rd gen- I'll find a link in a bit, but it was quickly done and missed a few tips that would help, IMO.

Drive with both hands. Shift with right hand. Replace hand. Simple.

But you could, if intuitive enough, drive with some shoe string and bubble gum.

Thank you. At least it looks like there is no grid pattern on the armrest and even some additional ribbing compared with the original issue on yours.

It would be nice to have more padding on the horizontal surface.

Hell, I drive only with one hand. Mostly my right. 10 and 2 is for newbies. Or the time window for Comcast.

Looks like the same process. The hardest part will be drilling out and reattaching the melted joints. In the video, the author used a 2-part epoxy which is great and all but you'll be investing about $60-70 in just the epoxy and special double calking gun if you don't have them already. Either way works towards the same goal.
