Ive always thought the conference system has been the weakness in NCAA football. They each want their money and I dont blame them but there are just too many. If you look at the pro soccer leagues in the UK, this would be a great system for the NCAA in D1. Each team earns points the previous year which place them in the top (Premeire) tier league. There would be multiple tiers within D1 where the bottom 4 of any league are relegated to the lower one and the top 4 are advanced to the one above. This way, if you are good, and have good years, you will move up. If you start to suck, then you will be relegated down. They could limit the number of teams in the top tier league and then setup a proper playoff. I doubt this would ever happen because money.

This is America. You can’t compare soccer to American football. That just doesn’t work.

Would you also institute the purchase of players as well? I kinda feel like the recruiting system currently in NCAA D1 football would basically keep the same teams in the Premier tier. Whereas with futbol, the lower tier teams can spend big bucks on a quality player(s) and make it up to the Premier tier.

Would be kind of interesting to see how that could work.

Not what I mean. In futbol, a team in the lower tier can go BUY a player from a team. That player switches teams (giggity) and that lower team has now improved their roster, and in essence improved their chances of moving up.

kinda off topic here, but I always hated in college the idea that whatever scholarship I chose (academic) made the other scholarships come off the table. like if I chose to go to Auburn straight out of high school, the scholarship to Alabama goes away. college is just setup shitty anyways lol

 

The more I think about it, I kinda like this system, applied to CFB. However, I think it would be best applied to ALL of CFB's divisions. This is where donors can legally make a difference.

Edit: Now, performing well academically can influence the financial means you have to acquire talent on the field/court/rink, whatever.

 

That is shitty, but if you are a good athlete, you'll get schollied up when you transfer anyway.

It would be interesting for sure. The way players transfer from school to school to get the play time they want is kind of like "buying/selling" players but without money. Whatever happens in the future, it would be awesome if they were able to somehow provide us what we all want, a definitive champion each year that is the best team that year. There are just so many teams and conferences and not enough time to play a lot of games.
