I'm kinda jealous of yall tha have time to, split, stack and burn wood.
Grew up heating with it, so, no skin off my back.
Everyone else would be happy to have the house about 64day/55 night....
But, I can barely keep enough wood use in my firepit.
And, we can't have outdoor wood boilers in my area anymore.

    Either way....

for the outdoor wood boilers, if you build a shed around it then you can get away with it. NYS threatened to ban them (no idea why) but if you build a structure around it (barn/shed) and if you keep the walls away from the boiler per the instructions you should be ok. Bonus is if you make it big enough all your wood can be stored in there to

I usually chip away at mine; I don't marathon it unless I have to. I'll take a Sunday morning or two in the spring to knock it all down to stove length and stack it by the woodshed, and then I can split and stack it at my leisure when I've got a spare hour or two (I do it all by hand with a splitting maul, so trying to do it all at once would kill me, lol). Unless I'm really behind schedule I don't need to dedicate a full day to it or anything, unless I don't have anything going on some weekend or something. Beats the hell out of sitting on my butt watching television. :notsure:

I hear you. But, work demands a large portion of my time, and energy. The family gets the rest. If I get a morning a month just to drop a line in the water, I'm stoked.
Only time I really slow down to civilized hours, is winter.

Just got to thinking about stuff, and debating just having someone come spray foam my upstairs before I start the heat....

btw, I'm not a fan of these temps/weather.....

    Hahaha

I hear you on the work; I work a 50+ hour week, every week. If I work a Saturday I'm right around 60 hours. But I'm an early riser so I usually have a little time in the mornings where I can go out and swing the maul or weed the garden if I feel like it before I need to shower and get ready. And the GF has a lot of extra curricular stuff for her job that means that I get an hour or two after work a couple of times a week too, that I usually split between the garden and the woodpile.

I use to hand split my craigslist finds and then i found out you can rent a splitter from sunbelt on Friday due Monday for $99. It's due Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. I split 3 cords in one weekend once.
Then my friend bought a splitter and i mooched that :)

Now the pellet saga begins...and my split wood is for bbq and outdoor fires

I've split +/- 3 cord on a Saturday before. It wasn't an experience I'll repeat often if I can avoid it. That was the summer that I spent a couple of weekends building the woodshed, so I fell behind on the wood itself. And then after I spent all day splitting it, I woke up Sunday morning to it getting rained on. Forecast was for clear skies all weekend. :frusty:

I know your time is at a premium due to your hours, but you should really consider doing the spray foam yourself and saving some $$$. Spray foam itself is expensive and the R value per inch isn't overly crazy. What it does very well though is act like an air barrier while providing some insulation as well. A lot of times, you can do the spray foam for the first inch to seal the area off, then put fiberglass insulation over that to add R value and save a butt load of money. I bought a kit online and it wasn't overly difficult to do and I was in a crawl space. Just a thought.

Whenever I've used it, it causes my wipers to chatter when I do need them. Does that ever happen to you?

I usually wipe mine down with rain-x while I'm applying it to the windshield and it keeps that from happening.

    I have seriously considered this.
Only thing is, on the flash and batt, I keep coming up with a bunch of negatives, on the underside of a warm/hot roof.

If I have 6" of spray, it'll get me better than code, and I don't have to do anything else.

Otherwise, I'm sistering up my joists, for a deeper cavity.

Still a lot of research to do.

I'm trying to make sure everything I do, is done right the first time. Rework takes too much time and money.

I have. What I do now is I use the Rain X in the washer fluid at a 50/50 mix between the Rain X and regular blue fluid. That seems to be the perfect amount of repellent for me. It still repels water but it doesn't make the wipers chatter when I use them.

That and I run only factory wiper blades. I've tried a bunch of different brands but it seems like every time I used an aftermarket blade they didn't fit right and they chatter.

Ah, didn't realize you were going hard up against a roof. I haven't done my research in that condition but I know there are certainly concerns with that type of construction if the roof wasn't built with the intention of having insulation directly applied to the underside. You could still go DIY and save a bunch of money but it does take some time. I went with Foam it Green for my crawl space. At the time, they had good reviews (haven't looked into it again since). Their customer service was great and the pricing was similar regardless of the brand I went with.

Right. Minimum foam is 3-4 inches.
I have a lot of space to cover

I was looking to create a vented roof, and fiberglass it. Sister the joists, 1" air space....

But, no matter what, it's gonna cost....

Just want it to be tight and right.

Yeah, I've tried lots of expensive wiper blades and hate all of them. I haven't had any complaints about the OEM ones on the F150 so I'll probably replace them with the same when it comes time.
