Went fairly well other than catching a good shower of gas, and taking a minute to find the last bolt that was supposed to be a stud and a nut.

Now must tear into this strange thing and find a hopefully easily fixed oil leak.

Just dip it in Flex Seal.

those motors are pretty easy to work on. A friend in high school had a couple of bus's, a handful of bugs, various years, and a sand rail. I was the other half of the engine hoist a lot of the time.
Yours appears to have the stock exhaust and the heat exchanger is still intact. Did it blow hot air when you drove it?

Oh man, got booted off the TacomaWorld Colorado Facebook page for not having a Tacoma. If you don't know, it really was a fake page with no affiliation to this actual site. I think it was started by one of OldBrets ex ladyfriends

They seem simple.. But the stupid tins they are wrapped in appear to be a pain in the ass.. Not even sure where to start removing them to find the leak.

Bellhousing is dry, under oil cooler is dry. Seller said heater worked, all the piping and junk is there for it. It was used for a DD and he seemed pretty trustworthy and lifelong vw guy.

Naturally i didn't get the adapter to mount this thing to an engine stand, so that's worthless until i do.

But the trans is also a mess of an oil leak that I'll need to look into after i mess with this thing.

Well that's a bummer. Thought I was getting the nice smooth bottom 2nd gen front skid as shown on the RCI website, but instead they only sell 3rd gen skids with the bump-down.

The tin's being a pain in the ass are usually why they are missing. Take them all off and clean the dust and crap out, might find a leak behind them that's dripping down.

I would bet the Black Friday sales will be better on both.

Well.. Wish it was an easy fix, but my assumption is it's probably a junk case.

    0925181611a_HDR.jpg 0925181611a.jpg

I'm guessing they were trying to fix a cracked case and then just didn't clean up the spillage. Can't tell if it's from the head gasket (or whatever vw calls it) spurting up or if it's coming from under the jb weld.

run it till it blows. :burnrubber:
look for a replacement in the meantime.
might last longer than you think though.
Is there a fresh leak coming from it or just the leftover down below?
