On my drive this morning I approchaed a turn rather slow, and when I accelerated I heard some rattling going on that sounded to be originating from the front drivers side of the truck. It was very noticeable during the turn. On the straight part of the road I would accelerate it and put the pedal about 60%-70% all the way down and I could somewhat hear the rattling again, although it was not as loud as when I was turning and accelerating out of it.

Got home, went under the truck to check for anything thag might be lose and I could not find anything so I will be checking mounts next. I did want to check with TW to see if my drivers side CV shaft has appropriate spacing. I tried wiggling it and it’s pretty damn firm where it connects to the diff. I get a super super slight “wiggle” if I really put some muscle into it and where the shaft connects to the tire it’s solid (no play whatsoever).

EDIT: The noise reminded of driving a manual car and accelerating while the car is in a high gear (i.e. accelerating from 25MPH in 4th gear). Took a look at my mounts and they seem fine, although I’m not sure how to really test them/check.
I’m inclining at a bigger potential headache here.

Attached is a picture. Is that normal spacing? I don’t think that’s my culprit in my rattling noise but it just caught my attention.

    Happy Friday everyone:cheers:

I've posted a few times on here about a rattle when I accelerate and the dealer can't seem to figure it out. It seems to happen after the truck has been running for atleast 20 minutes. It sounds like a metallic vibration when I hit the gas and doesn't' sound normal by any means.

Exactly what mine sounds like. It sounds like clunky gears too but it goes away. This is only my second run in with is through the 1 year I’ve owned the truck. I’ll have to jack it up and see if I can’t find anything odd. I did switch to premium gas to see if it’s maybe the low quality gas causing issues as I’ve read on here.

I filled up with a little over 1/4 left. I haven’t heard anything. Will report back after a completely empty tank is filled with premium.

I have same sound. Just like lugging when accelerating a manual transmission at lower RPM's. Seems to happen when going form 6th at cruising, give it gas and the rattling sound until it shifts to a higher gear. Higher octane gas didn't seem to help with mine.

Does it sound almost like an exhaust leak and it only happens about when you slightly accelerate?

IDK keep telling my dealership about it but they want to go on a ride along I dont have time for. The engine needs to be warm for about 20 or so minutes before it starts happening. They checked the exhaust and they said they couldnt find anything, so its definitely not that at least.

Legit the same thing that is happening to me and they let my truck sit idle for 30 minutes and said they could not replicate it. I take back roads home from work and about 20 minutes into my drive it happens every times. Slight acceleration and it sounds like an exhaust rattle but from under the hood. This truck is really pissing me off.

Yup, sounds like its coming from between me and the hood somewhere.

    That’s normal spec

Keep in mind you have a 4500lb 4WD truck with sprung suspension and a lot of open space underneath for noise to echo, diff howel (not the actual diff) and a host of other noises that you will never hear from a car or unibody vehicle.

You’ll go insane chasing down every noise a truck makes, new or used. My brother used to buy a lot of used old trucks and he installed aftermarket stereos and amps and I asked him why. He said, “so I don’t have to listen to the truck”

While I would typically agree with you this does not sound like a normal truck noise.

@Rustytaco71 Vacuum pump rattle, mine does it too SOMETIMES on cold starts at idle. Toyota has a TSB for it. I think it is harmless, Just noisy and doesn't bother me. TSB says 0.5 hours work time. I looked under my hood and it is behind the passenger side cylinder bank. Pretty cramped back there.
