Oh did they change the production facility now. Are they still in Toyota City? My parents old runner had the Araco sticker and my Land Cruiser has Araco as well.

I would argue the bigger difference is his wife's '17 4Runner hasn't changed much since 2009 and Toyota has worked most of the bugs out in the last nine years whereas his Tacoma is the first year of a new generation. I've worked in overseas manufacturing for 18 years and it still cracks me up when people somehow think stuff made in Japan is somehow superior. I've seen crap come out of Japanese facilities and seen high-end, no-defect stuff come out of China; it all depends on the quality standards you put in place in the factory which is a company issue and not a country issue.

My FJ came from Japan and it was a huge turd. You can get a good one or a bad one from anywhere.

Yes, but getting back to the original complaint of this thread. Japan's tech packages are far beyond what is available in the US.

I think this has more to do with what the society values though. I don't think people switch car brands in the US because they love a specific head unit or infotainment system. The quality of tech in Japan probably has a bigger influence on a final buying decision than in the US because competition is more fiece in tech across the board. Their cellphones also usually have newer tech than in the US as well. Same concept.

Android Auto was a "no" on all Toyotas, globally, up until a few days ago when they finished the deal with google to put it in.
    https://www.ctvnews.ca/autos/toyota-to-add-android-auto-in-its-cars-1.4108146

And note that when they open with the line about Renault, that is actually something different. Not "Android Auto", but rather full blown Android, which doesn't depend on a phone for its advanced functionality.

In the 1960's, made in Japan usually meant junk and made in the USA was far superior. It has just been reversed now.

39 TSB's have been issued for the 17 4 runner.
54 TSB's have been issued for the 17 Tacoma.

Not all of them actually apply of course, there are quite a few duds in the list.

Make of that what you will.

Just ask anyone that owns a 1st gen Tacoma and a 3rd gen runner. They look almost the same as far as cockpit goes and seating position, drivetrains, suspension, even paint colors. But most will tell you the fit and finish of the runner is better, and often the interior is put together better as well.

The 2018 Sport 4x4 made in Mexico stunk really bad, almost like smoke. It had cloth seats with the black interior. The PRO made in SA has the standard PRO interior and does not stink. Actually smells like a new car.

Vehicles/society DO NOT need more tech at their hands. I partly have armor for trail use, partly for all the tards with their nose shoved into their iPhone10. My work phone (iOS :crapstorm: ) and personal device (Android :muscleflexing: ) track enough as is, don't need the vehicle getting any smarter.

In fact, and likely my own fault, my VSC is trying to kill me on these wet and rainy roads after I "fixed" my alignment. Thank sweet beebee Haysoos I put in a 'fun switch' that kills all the traction/ABS nanny shit so my truck doesn't decide to suddenly swerve into a median or guardrail on a straight and flat 55mph roadway for NO REASON.

I wish the Tacomas came with a flat screen tv in the visor, and a foot massager in the gas pedal.
