Can you lift your truck and still keep the stock ride quality?

I’m thinking of lifting my Tacoma and my biggest concern is compromising my drive quality. I have done a decent amount of research and ruled out spacers and block lifts as well as full blown suspension lifts. I am leaning towards 5100s up front with 885 to give it the lift I want. Was just going to leave the rear stock.

I’m not doing this for off roading. I want the aesthetic look of a lift with a good daily driver feel.

Any additional feedback would be greatly appreciated!

These are at .65 inch or 2nd ring.
With the 5100’s positioned at any of the settings, the stock coil height remains unchanged. The 5100’s provide lift by lengthening the bottom tube of the shock as you move the ring up at each position.
You could keep the stock springs with the 5100’s and get the desired lift if you just want the aesthetic.

Or, buy better shocks and taller springs. So many choices.

I can’t comment regarding different springs.

The 5100’s improve your handling in curves with less lean and body roll, but the ride will feel firm as you lose the soft on road ride of the stock 4600 Bilsteins.1E05074D-1D77-4585-A101-77961E56B71B.jpg EB72F338-85C1-4BD3-970C-1047F8E763D7.jpg

Honestly, as a big proponent of doing things right the first time, spending on quality lifts, etc.: If you're not going to work the suspension hard by going off road. And you just need to level it out up front for aesthetic purposes. Just get a pair of spacers (1.5 to 2"). Like $60-90.

I’ve got (4) Bilstein 5100s at 1” lift on front and settled to 1/2” with winch and slim bumper and AAL (left overload in) on back for 1.5” settled a little with rear bumper.

It’s about the same rake as stock just a really slight lift all around. Rides a bit stiff which I’m fine with since I’m on pavement roads mostly.

Yep. Spacers to save some money.

Sure, but with the eBay sale I did everything for $450 including the ECGS bushing. Plus selling old shocks for $100 and cost me $350 doing all work myself.

I’m not saying the spacers don’t serve a purpose, but they do nothing for your suspension performance and if you add blocks in the back you’ll just create more havoc.

Many people forget off road vehicles are designed to perform best at the lowest center of gravity with longer suspension travel. And on pavement, why even lift anything?

He stated he wanted to maintain the factory ride. A spacer has a huge negative effect on road ride.

I had spacers put on my 2nd gen. I went from liking how the ride felt prior to spacers, to feeling like a was riding in a 70's Ford. It was a huge change in ride quality. I took them off within 200 miles it was that bad.

We're talking 1.5-2" lift up front. Ride quality doesn't suffer much.

I did a 2 inch spacer. My ride quality changed completely, for the worse.

    all pavement here...

strange. I put a rough country 3" lift on a couple weeks ago, truck drives
better than stock & the shocks that came with it made a huge difference
over bumps. I noticed it immediately the next day when I went over the
nasty speed bumps they installed last year in front of our office, there was
a major difference (for the good) when the back of the truck went over them.

I have an Off Road access cab 17. After a lot of research I change my suspension over to the OEM TRD Pro Fox system. I purchased the Kit from gunny1005 on his dealer parts thread here on the forum. Great price delivered. My truck rides 10 times better than it did with the Off Road setup. Best part, direct bolt on. No setup just remove and install. Rears took 15 minutes per side. Front coil overs took 30 minutes per side. Front end alignment cost me 90 bucks. The kit levels the truck. On the road the truck rides almost as nice as my 17 4Runner Limited and off road its great too.

This is how simple it is to remove and install. The video is for OME but the TRD Pro kit goes on exactly the same. I did mine in my shop on jack stands. It took longer to raise the truck than to remove, install, and torque the parts. https://video.search.yahoo.com/yhs/...9fb9bdd35e7f10b847b44161e008120e&action=click

I’d like to put on TRD Pro suspension but for the price I think I’d rather go with 5100s.

Would it be bad just to do the front and leave the back stock?

I had my old Tacoma on the OEM king replacement with all pro expos. Compared to that my current Tacoma drives like shit. Not sure why you want to keep the stock ride. It’s not good.

Just get yourself the oME if you want to lift it a little

I put Bilsteins adjustable shocks on my 2018 DC SB 4x4 and used OME coils and put 255/85/16s> 33s Trxus MT super swampers on SR5 Alloys The ride is so much better Bilsteins set at 2 in the front and Bilsteins in rear came out perfect at 2 inches of lift.
