Yeah there is that.... and I already have a propane water heater that was made in china hanging on my interior wall... I should probably get better insurance.

You still liking your Camplux? My wife really wants us to get a hot water setup ASAP. Been leaning towards doing something like this:

I saw one at the NW Overland Rally like this one. Was on a teardrop with quick connects to their on board water system. I'm thinking maybe a bigger case so I can fit the water pump and small accumulator all in the box.

What I've been thinking down the road would be to mount the box to a swingout, along with a propane tank and water jug or two (no tire) so that the entire water system was together for easy setup and use. Lately though, i've been reading a lot about the weight of all that on the back, especially since I tow so much. Starting to second guess the swingout idea.

    What do y'all think?

We love it.... best shower beers I have had have been on top of mountains in the middle of nowhere.

I really like having it where it is on the interior wall, I just connect hoses and its good to go, but I can see how it would be nice to have he portability with that case. As long as the swingout is built to hold the weight I don't see any issues... There are people carrying 35'' spare tires on some swingouts.

i really like my swing out. the flop down table gets used. i carry two gas cans or propane and one gas can. the 80lb 33" is hard to get on the mount, but comes off easy. i did not think i noticed that bumper weight, but then i put the Habitat on

If it weren't for the fact I tow so much I'm sure a swingout would be fine, but moving all that weight to the VERY back of the truck and having tongue weight too I'd prolly be back to sagging and feeling like the front of the truck was going to lift off the ground, lol. I would prolly get an ARB bumper up front which would at least help with the "light" front end.

Does anyone have any advice for weatherproofing the truck before Habitat installation? Never had to worry about it with my 08' and snugtop topper, but the topper came down on the sides a bit, looks like the Habitat just sits on top of the side rails. Was thinking about disassembling what I could and sealing with silicone or something similar around the rails and bed...

Edit: Also definitely looking into weatherproofing the tailgate, hated dust infiltration on my old rig

When the Habitat is installed they take off the black plastic bedside toppers and put down, i think, a "triple bulb seal". I've had a small amount of leakage still at the front drivers side corner, but nothing bad enough for me to care. Some people add some type of silicone/caulking on the outer corners after install to help with that. I've never had any water come in from the back, but definitely get some dust intrusion.

As above, triple bulb seal here too.

I get a little dust intrusion at the tail gate but nothing worth writing home about. The again, kitchen and dry goods are in harddigg cases, perishables are in a fridge. All wearables, bedding, soft goods etc are all in either military duffles, or more weather resistant civilian counterparts.

My only leak is off the shell to tent junction across the hinged end of the hab. Will be throwing a bead of ultra gray RTV when I get a little less lazy.

As mentioned before, I have a shit ton of rubber trim to soften the “back scratcher” at the rear hatch.

$7 shipped for a piece to address the nightly blood letting.

    Pm if interested.

The unit I looked at up at Juniper had some fairly robust padding in that area (I made sure to look at that due to y'alls earlier posts) so I figured I'd wait to get eyes on my unit before I decide what to do there. I'll definitely hit you up if I need some of that trim though, thanks!

on my unit...i do not feel the standard installation seal was adequate. had i been prescient....i would have removed that top plastic rail cover and caulked all the holes and voids..well in advance of install day. part of the problem for me is my previous to Habitat fender liner removal. the OEM fender liner is grossly necessary to prevent water incursion from spinning wheels...i'm at fault for this..taking credit for the wet gear bags..wet dog bed..and puddles of water inside the bed even as the truck sits still in the rain..in other words the spinning wheels contribute gallons of spray.....but rain slants in between the cab and the Habitat and collects on the front bed rail and grinds its way under the "BULB SEAL" and into the inside of the bed..the install-day bulb seal just ain't it. ....and to continue i got in to the front of the bed with my head on the corrugated bed floor and looked into this corner where the Habitat meets the Tacoma and I could see light..a nice hole full of light..caulked it still leaks

I think the biggest issues people miss is that the boxes on either side of the bed are a big source of dust. another big one are the gaps beneath the bedsides. The composite bed itself has divots at the top where it mates w/ the bedside, causing gaps that allow dust and air and mud and water to seep in. plug all the holes and gaps and there goes your source of dust. Another issue, but more minor, is when your bed twists on obstacles.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
My buddy got tired of taking chasing the dust and a little water intrusion. He bought flex seal tape and ran it inside the perimeter of the truck. He did a good job and kept it level. He also ran a strip along the seam between the cab and the AT.
Yes it’s complete overkill and not using what the manufacturer had intended.
Now he will have to deal with it when he takes it off.

gaps everywhere. ive worked on those boxes in the bedbox sides. a little dust and a little water intrusion i can get used to.
been trying to get my inside completed so the tents been opened the past couple days.
was looking at how the caulking has shrank up...thinking it might of been temperature changes
but realized i had all the weight hanging out back with the tent open.
i know the install used some double side sticky tape and six bolts..and the bulb seal.
i looked in @mjohn617 Habitat last june, and it had six clamp hold downs

Who makes your bumper. I'm looking for a swing out or double swing out for a 2018/2019 (TBD Tacoma) to hold two Aluminess boxes. Aluminess nolonger makes bumpers for new models instead focusing on sprinters and sportsmobils.
