You mean to tell me i can only choose between 3 colors for a new 2011 Tacoma?

So i called a dealer that i've been in contact with and i've decided to wait for the 2011's to come out so i can have more freedom in my options as far as color and conveniences go.

Well, here's the truck that i want:
    - Access Cab
    - Base Model (no SR5 or anything)
    - 5 speed manual
    - 2wd
    - Convenience package
    - and of course the color of my choice

He tells me that the only color options i'm going to have for that specific model is white, silver, black and MAYBE gray. I'm sorry, excuse me? I'm ordering a truck here that might not have even rolled off the assembly line yet and you're telling me they can't request a color? I mean, i know how assembly lines work and they probably only offer certain colors in certain trims, but dang c'mon, only 3 colors? And black, silver and white? Are construction workers the only audience for this trim?

Sorry i'm getting upset, i just figured if i could wait for the new ones to come out i figured i'd have more freedom to choose all the specifics. Someone please settle my nerves

Meh, i find that hard to believe. My dad has a base 2007 that's impulse red, definitely not work-truck worthy.

I also believe it's the issue with the base model. It's base for a reason, fleet shipments and no offense to you, but budget people that will take whatever to save the package money.

Perhaps in the new ones, but my dad's is definitely not SR5... just a base ol' tacoma in red (w/ the convenience package, 2wd).

Not to burst your bubble, but I got to the toyota website to build my own and they let me choose more colors but will not let me choose a manual transmission and an access cab. So not sure if you will get what you want anyway.

Sorry that's if you chose the pre-runner. you are good for a regular 4*2

Yeah i noticed that too, but i've actually been looking at a 2010 access, 5speed, 2wd... but it didn't come w/ the convenience package so i figured i should wait for 2011. It was gray by the way.

Looks like 2011 is the end of the 4x4 Regular cab. At least per the latest website.

Just went to the Toyota (Canada) website, and the base models for 2010 (2011's aren't listed yet) are available in black, white, red, grey, and silver.... Also, when I was shopping for my truck, I looked at importing one for Washington that was Pyrite Mica.

That's the color i'd like to choose. But apparently they aren't going to make any?

Just wait another month or so and get a good deal on a 2010 of your choice. Isn't Toyota even running 0% on them right now. You could probably get a new 2010 with a lot more options once the 2011 models come out.

That's the problem though, i literally can't find a 2010 w/ my exact specifications (believe me, i've talked to dealers from texas to the carolinas). That's why i'm waiting for the 2011, because i thought i would have more freedom to customize it.

Just curious, why do you need those 'exact specifications' if you're looking for the most basic of basic models? To me it doesn't make sense. You don't want any options (or very few), but black, white or silver would be out of the question.

Why not wait, as suggested, and get a 2010 in a better model with more options (i.e. SR5) for close to the same money when they are trying to offload them to make way for the 2011s and thereby get a much better choice of colors as well?

Oh yeah, and this is slightly off topic, but I just found these pics, which I'm sure have been posted here before:

It's complicated... but simply put, i'm a picky person. I don't like the SR5 trim because of the silver aesthetics on the interior. I also don't much care for the chrome grill surround on the front. Silver looks alright, i really don't like white at all, and don't care too much for black. I like the gray and i like the micas. I'd like a truck like my dads, and it's a simple, no-nonsense truck but with a "customized" feel to it (maybe that's just because it's red), and it's no fancy SR5.

Call me crazy or whatever, but In the end, i'm the one paying the money so i should be able to get the truck i actually want... or so i hope :(

If you live near another major city, try using a ZIP code from there and see if you can configure the truck how you want it.

Toyota bases option availability (including color) on location.

I'm from the Memphis, TN area and i'm trying but it's not pulling anything up other than a bunch of V6's, if not the same selection limitations the memphis zip code gets me.

Buy a Ford and they will paint it any custom color you want. Catch is you have to buy 5ea of them at the same time.

Maybe go talk to someone about this picky{anal retentive} behavior you have? j/k! Sometimes you have to be willing to give a little.

Hmmm, maybe i do need to do a little mental reorganizing. I was just under the impression that a dealer is going to give you the car you want, so long as you give him the money he wants.

Dealer can get you anything you want within the ordering guidelines Toyota or the distributor network puts out. Problem is that Toyota as a brand in general is more restrictive than others.

You can get many dealers to ad things on after the fact but many times they are not factory warranted but only backed by the original selling dealer. Obvious exception are the "Genuine" Toyota accessories.
