Lighting upgrade for 2006 Tacoma

Alright guys, I'm going into new territory. I spent about 3 hours total today looking for threads to help me but so far haven't learned much. I want to upgrade the amount of light my headlights put out. Whether that means new headlights, "retrofit" (whatever that means exactly, I've seen 2 definitions), or just new bulbs, I don't know. But I need more light from the headlights themselves, I can't run my high beams or light bar all the time so an upgrade is due! Any guidance or links to useful threads is much appreciated.

dont overcomplicate it, the easiest way is to replace your factory light bulb with a led one. find out what size it is, go on Amazon and type the bulb number and put led next to it, and order a decent one. dont buy the cheapest one, check the reviews. i bought mine from a good Canadian company, its almost like driving with a small led bar. just make sure you adjust your headlights after you replace it with led bulbs. ill include the place i got mine from, we installed a lot of these and havent had any complaints from customers, they love it.

Won't this throw LED light into oncoming driver's eyes? Not trying to blind people if I can.

 

Try new halogen bulbs.
Maybe yours are crap.
An engineer made sure the stock setup threw enough light on the road.
I have bone stock lights and have not out run them.

Need glasses maybe?
Windshield pitted?

 

it will if you dont adjust it. when i first installed it i drove to a shopping center at night to adjust it and on the way there almost everyone flashed me because they are super bright, but after i adjusted it, on the way home not a single person flashed me. there is a video on youtube that shows how to adjust headlights on a truck, its super easy for out truck. also if your truck is lifted, you have to lower it that much more, so if your lifted 3 inches, you have to drop it 3 extra inches. had these headlights for a year now and havent had anyone flash me. it was worth every penny

 

Got 20-18 eye sight. Windshield is brand new.
It throws enough light on the road but who is on TacomaWorld because their truck does “enough”?
I’m here to upgrade it.
Maybe you’re not, maybe you like stock, in which case maybe this wasn’t the thread for you! But thanks for your input!

 

I'm just worried if u make things brighter, you may be throwing more light into oncoming traffic.

Thanks for the input guys, had a few people PM me too. I think I’m going with the H4 halogen upgrade. I don’t like the idea of putting a bulb the housing isn’t designed for in my truck. I hate people who do it so I won’t be one who does it. I’m all about function, not aesthetics.

 

I agree! That’s why I was asking for input. Doing something like putting a LED bulb in a halogen housing would do that. But I wasn’t sure what the best methods were for getting more light down the road where I wanted it. The H4 upgrade keeps the same cutoff so I don’t blind people but it increases the light output. That’s all I wanted to know!

Installed some LED bulbs, seem pretty good. Only bad thing was that they were quite a bit larger than halogen bulbs and when installing on passenger side, not enough clearance. AFTER OVER AN HOUR, I had to take off the windshield wiper fluid container. Didn't know it was only 2 bolts holding it.

 

The H4 halogen wont make much of a difference, the led lights i have make almost a perfect cut off line after being adjusted. If you want i can send u pics of the cut off line at night and how they look at night

 

@TacoMoose Could you post a photo if you have one, id love to see it I'm debating LEDs or a Brighter Halogen

 

Ummm... brighter halogens. Its no comparison. And yes they've been tested extensively. See this thread in the 2nd gen subforum. Read the first posr (yes, its updated) at least.
