Could be done with an Access Cab frame and the only custom pieces would be the bed panels and the bed itself.

Nice feature, the power windows I've encountered don't have that, soon as you turn off the ignition they don't work.

You'd have to accept the same short life and unreliability as a chevy.

With that frame I would consider making a small Box truck, maybe longer than 9' with some tail swing.

    I beg to differ...LINK
I'm not here for a Ford vs. Chevy vs. Toyota peeing match, but from reading posts on this forum, especially 3rd gen stuff, Toyota is riding on their laurels a bit...

Interesting 4 banger blirp in the latest car and driver. GM is coming out with a 2.7 4 banger, will be one of the largest 4 bangers available then they say Toyota uses one in their Tacoma. Evidently large 4 bangers are an issue engineering wise. Did not know that.

I suppose when you consider they've made V12's smaller than that, it is big.

Maybe for gas engines. Some trucks at work have 4.3l Mercedes I4 Diesels.

Apparently, for gasoline engines (NOT diesels), certain displacements work better.
Hey! I found the info here!
This is apparently why you will be seeing a lot of 2.0 liter turbocharged engines.

I4 engines have an intrinsic vibration due to variations in piston speed. As engine size, RPM and power increase the vibration becomes more pronounced.

This vibration is less of an issue for large diesel I4s as their RPM will be lower than a gasser for similar power. There are solutions that use balance shafts to counteract the force of the pistons moving.

    Apparently is the key word.

In reality, I have now logged 807,000 miles on 2TR FE engines. And I have logged 300,000 on a Silverado.

    My choice is Toyota.

I completely rejected Colorado. The Colorado diesel will have issues with the emissions system. The gas Colorado struts around with its ass up in the air, waiting to fall apart.

Is it the same 2.7 turbo in the 2019 Silverado?

No way , The answer to upgrading from a fully framed Tacoma 4 x 4 with a four-cylinder is not a unibody ugly Ridgeline. That’s crazy . Upgrading would be A Tacoma with a V6 maybe the Chevy ZR2 with the V6 possibly the new Ford Ranger. I’m waiting to look at the jeep truck with the straight axles and the V-6. I would never consider that car Ridgeline thing

The 2.7 is a fine little motor and I usually get anywhere between 18-24 mpg on a pretty stock 4x4 (18-19 when towing my sailboat, 22.5 commuting with mixed driving, and 24 on road trips that don't have big hills). I'm a pretty cautious driver and usually stay slightly under the speed limit, so my mileage may be slightly better than others. It's done pretty well with hardware store runs and helping people move, but I'd probably sell it and buy a V6 if I had to tow more than five times a year. I believe the 3rd Gen 2.7 is geared differently, so it probably has a little more spunk and about the same fuel economy.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to think the 2.7 is slow, as I find my truck to be quicker than my wife's Corolla. I guess everyone else must be driving Dodge Hellcats......
