I noticed mine does that after a long road trip across NV and southern Utah. Happened two or three times.

So I just talked with my service manager about setting up a new appointment. Turns out he only wants to drive it and verify the noise. He stated that there is no fix for this noise. I then mentioned in all his years in this industry does he think it is normal and that if it were taken to a driveline shop they would state there is an issue. He replied stating the noise is not in the differential or rear-end, but it is in the transmission and again, there is no fix for this. He went on to talk about how it was in the new truck they had on the lot, but worse hinting it is a normal trait.

Whether there is any validity that the noise is for sure in the transmission, I still feel like they are giving me the run around. Either I am not getting the full story or they are just trying to get me to go away.

Take it to a new dealership. It is most definitely the differential. See my above/past posts.

Did the noise go away and then came back? Or did it remain?

Wow haha have they put it on a rack and put a stethoscope to the rear diff and transmission? If not ask him to do that and then let him tell you where the noise is coming from. Better yet, request you be right there when they do this.

Calling BS on this one. I have the howl bad and it's been getting worse to the point it's even at lower speeds now. I'm willing to bet I'm one of the likely 1-2% that have a 6MT in this thread so it's definitely not the transmission if it's happening to this many people.

Also, if it were the transmission, the only possible cause would be the output shaft because it will do it at 55mph for me in 4th, 5th, and 6th. The gear speed for anything else would be different between the gears and the noise is too consistent.

The noise quieted after the new rear diff, but was still audible if you knew what to look for. They also lowered my tire pressures so I think they were trying to make it go away.

They had it for a little over a week. Did the body mounts and rear diff. They said with the scope the noise was coming from the rear end. Now they are trying to say it is not the rear.

Agreed. Although last time it was in I mentioned the possibility of the noise coming from somewhere else in the driveline (carrier bearing, pinion, output shaft etc). But they stated it was not and it was the rearend. But now they say it is the tranny after talking with Toyota... Thinking they are trying to say it is from anywhere and that there is no fix hoping I say "ok" and walk away.

So after they listen to it Friday, I will see if Toyota calls me with an update. Then see what they say.

Same here, but the TSB does not include access cabs yet - unless I've missed something.

I think many dealers are probably clueless on this. I've been keeping after my dealer big time and I know they're in contact with regional service people (Corp). Regional is hesitating on letting the dealer do anything other than the tsb, which has already been done.

I guarantee you my dealer would like to do something, anything, to get me off their back. But Corp isn't telling them what to do.

Just imagine the flood if they take that next step of admitting an issue. I bet their corporate ass is still sore from the frame-rust debacle.

Carrier bearings are generally very well isolated to absorb driveline vibrations. I'd be surprised if it were this bad without a bearing failure.

Santa Fe or American? American has a Cavalry MT Pro for 47000 and they never deal. Got mine at Karl Malone in Salt Lake for 43500.

It is back, that is why I have to take it back into them and have contacted Toyota to open a case.
