Has my truck been lifted?

I just picked up a 06 Reg cab prerunner MT. Previous owner had little to no information to share about the truck since his son drove it most of the time. So I'm in the process of getting a baseline with this truck by changing out the fluids and doing basic maintenance.

I've never owned a truck or Tacoma before. Never had or driven a lifted truck.

My questions are. Is my truck lifted? If it is, how can I tell what it is lifted on?

I know they are on Bilstein shocks, but can't make out model number.

Welcome, send a pic of the suspension. What part of texas are you in?

 

Can you take a pic of the shocks? It does look like it is sitting higher than most single cabs. And the wheels are TRD Sport wheels, not the standard single cab 4 banger wheels, so my guess is yes.

I'm guessing the prerunner has the same suspension as sport tacoma or offroad? My truck is definately taller than some of the other white "work truck" tacomas that run around here.

 

Pretty sure the yellow shocks only came on the TRD sport and offroad models. You may be getting a bit more lift since those are meant for non-single cab configurations. The factory shocks on that model would be solid black.

 

Thanks. All good information. Quick question. Sometimes when I drive over uneven roads / (think rail road crossings), I feel like the truck is "floating" So not planted. Is that normal? Maybe worn bushings? I do know the current shocks are about 5 years old and have about 50K on them.

 

Those look to be the Bilstein 24-188401 - B6 - 4600 Shock Absorbers in the front, I like how the truck sits it does look good that way.

 

Those are good shocks but they dont lift the truck, unless the bottom of the front coils are resting higher than on the stock shocks (like with 5100’s), thr coils are longer, or there’s a spacer on top (this truck doesn’t have), and if the rear springs are different and provide more space or arch over the axle than stock.

The shocks are probably fine. The Tacoma rides relatively rough. The reg cab is light, and the suspension is stiff.

you could always upgrade to bilstein 5100's. The ride will be stiff, but more supple. Kings would be even better.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll take that into consideration when the current ones need changing.

 

An empty single cab will tend to "Bounce" on rough surfaces without extra weight in the bed, so it will feel "floaty", and, be really careful in the wet or on slick surfaces until you are used to the ride and handling characteristics! Even a bobtail Semi tractor will feel weird in unloaded conditions, and will slide like crazy on slick roads.

 

Funny you say that because it rained a little today and when I was turning left, my back end started to fishtail.
