Anyone got any suggestions on "THE PERSON" I should call when attempting to get Toyota to honor the rear spring TSB on a 2005 with 50K miles?

I have an extended warranty with Toyota that covers mechanical failure to 75K miles and was told by the schmoe on the phone that "harsh ride" does not constitute an mech-fail. I'd argue it does since I can't carry a load or tow anywhere near the rated capacity.

Anyway, there always ONE GUY(s) to talk to concerning these types of things.

    Any suggestions?

You're way past the 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty - the extended warranty does not cover the TSB. Look into an aal.

Try some other dealers, some will do it under the ext warranty but it is not part of it, it's only for the 3yr/36k warranty.

Try several different dealers, I have a 2010 and the dealer I bought m truck from wouldn't do the TSB. I called 2 more dealers and the third one I talked to 51 miles away said the would take care of it. I got to the dealer Tuesday, they looked at it and ordered the spring pack and I take it in tomorrow to have the work done.

So try more dealers, my brother has been a GM dealership mechanic for almost 20 years and told me it is strictly up to service dept and mechanic that is assigned your truck as to what decision they will make.

The next closest dealership is 2 hours away.

The dealership here is going to measure the ride height and see if I am out of "spec".

If I am then the x-warranty will cover the TSB.

Good luck with that- The TSB specifically says the 3yr/36K warranty. If you get covered outside that it's a pure gift.

If the dealer won't do it just price around your local lift/truck shops. I did an AAL for $100 installed. Good luck man.

This is true, however if you can't haul a load SAFELY as I couldn't (4 bikes,4 people = 700 lbs) my extended warranty covered it. It was done on my '06 with 85K, I got some b.s. @ my local dealer so I went to the original dealer who I bought the truck from and no problem. It sucks that my truck couldn't be used as a truck because it handled horrible while riding and bouncing of the bump stops. Good luck

This is my opinion as well. If I can't haul/tow safely with this crappy suspension that they KNOW they've been putting on these trucks, and continue to do it, then I basically have a car with a useless bed.

Went back to the dealership to have them measure ride height/angle to see if I could get Toyota Extra care to cover the TSB under the extended warranty.

Turns out, my timing was good as well as my luck. The "district reps" were in town and gave the service manager the OK to do the entire TSB, front and back.

They (district reps) told me the parts used for the TSB are the same used on Mexican Hilux trucks.

Anyway, those guys were apparently the guys I needed to talk to.

I just got this done on an 07 with 46k miles. I started the process by getting a case number assigned by Toyota. They contacted my local dealer who then contacted me. It was covered by the extended warranty. The magic words for me where "harsh ride" and "reduced load capacity".

I'm picking my Tacoma up from the dealership today after having the Rear TSB done. Oddly, they replaced all shocks in addition to the rear springs. **scratches head**

The TSB says to only replace the springs on TRD models. I thought shocks and springs replacement was only for NON-TRD models.

Does anyone have a clue as to why they'd replace everything?

I guess 'never look a gift horse in the mouth' right? I'd just make a note of it and if you ever have problems because of that swap then you'll have documentation.

Where in Jacksonville did you get the TSB work done by the way?

They probably just didn't read it right. The dealer wanted to change the shocks on my '09, even thought it clearly states that no '09's or '10s get new shocks, trd or non-trd.

How do you know if you need this tsb done if you haven't towed anything? I'm asking for my own interest...I've only had my truck a short time and haven't towed anything or experienced a "harsh ride". Can I tell if I look at the number of leaf springs I currently have??

You can't tell if you "need" it until you tow or haul something and you bottom out.

You can tell if your truck has had it performed but looking at your rear leaf packs. If you have 3 leafs +1 overload, the TSB has been performed on your truck. If you have 2 leafs + 1 overload, it has not.

Good point! I even asked on the phone if mine was supposed to get the new shocks. He said yeah, we went ahead and replaced all the shocks. Sweet!

Kieth Pierson Toyota on Youngerman Circle. I recommend these folks. They've been great so far.
