My little buddy Bear. We rescued him a little over a year ago. He's one of the most loving dogs I've ever met and just wants to be near me at all times.

Sorry for the rant but...I used to think the same way until my good friend rescued the cutest pit puppy from the local no kill shelter. I watched he and his wife lovingly raise this dog to be gentile and dosile. They have a small child that dog absolutely adored. Two years in and not an issue with this great pup UNTIL one day at the local boat launch while waiting to put our boat in he saw a small dog about 20 feet away in the corner of his eye, lunged forward broke free of his leash and ran over and attacked this small dog. Shook it violently back and forth it was like a switch went off in his head. I was absolutely shocked at what I was seeing from this otherwise sweet dog. Luckily the small dog lived but my friends dog is now house bound and my buddy is out almost $13k in vet bills, court costs and attorneys fees. Pit bulls are a ticking time bomb and a liability. I have seen first hand how unpredictable they can be. Why risk it...get a lab.

The labs are thirteen and ten and ponch just turned one and he's definitely the ringleader.

Well said. These thoughts apply to all breeds as well. Remember almost every dog breed was selectively bred for certain characteristics. The vast majority of dog have been bred to work in one way or another; from herding, hunting and guarding. An owner needs to understand their dog's breed history, personal history, temperament, and training must be catered to that dog. Dogs are much like our children, we love them and we want them to grow to be responsible and trust worthy.

Like children, all dogs can not be approached and trained in the same way. I have raised 3 children, and while the rules are the same for all 3, the teaching (training) of them, rewards for good behavior, and the consequences for rule violation and bad behavior must differ for each based on their temperament.

 

Yes she's almost 6 months now and no longer looks like a puppy. Still acts like one thankfully!

Thought she was a male for some reason. Such good looking dogs.

 

Nah no boys around here, except my boyfriend haha thank you! They are both really good dogs, too.

Took a little road trip and picked up my little boy, Glaurung.

He has pretty much bonded with my wife and for now more or less ignores me.
