Loved my Taco, love my Tundra. Whoever is saying it’s underpowered doesn’t know what they’re talking about. I felt like I had to romp on my Tacoma to get up to speed on the interstate. The Tundra goes from 0 to 75 mph with ease.

I always thought I would take my Taco off-road, but in reality my off-roading was farm land and two tracks - nothing the Tundra couldn’t fit through.

It amazes me when Taco guys dog Tundras and vice versa. It’s more truck (room, size and power) for more money. If that’s what you want, get one. It’s like arguing with a stranger that they should have bought a ranch style home instead of a split level. No one knows your situation and needs better than you.

I just sold my '03 Tundra at 279k miles. Not a single problem. The best part, small size 1st generation...practically the same size as todays Tacoma. New full size trucks are humongous including the Tundra. I went with the Tacoma simply because of size and Toyota quality. Very happy, no squawks!

12 mpgs?! My brother runs 37 MT on 3.5" lift with 600 lbs of steel and gets 12 mpg at 75 mph.

If thats the case, then I am among the other 10%. I came to the internet to see if there were solutions to the messed up shifting issues that was already apparent. Toyota knows its an issue, and all the service techs know its an issue. For the first time in a decade, my dealership says that Toyota is offering buying incentives for the Tacomah. I looked at the left over inventory of 2018's in the lot and I see 5 or 6 of every other model, and I see 16 Tacoma's that have yet to be sold.

My pops has a 2011 Tundra and loves it. He only has ~45k on it, but tows the horse, hay, etc.. and is mostly bang around work truck. If he travels, he takes the plush ride of the Q5

I had a 2017 Tundra Crew Max sr5 for a week as a loaner and I could not wait to get my Taco back. The interior room was awesome and the 5.7 had some nice power, but the size of the truck was a major problem for me. I hated to drive the thing, the Taco is a pleasure to drive for me it handles better, easier to park and maneuver. I came extremely close to buying a Tundra last year when I bought my Taco and I am glad I did not. Just my two cents....

The Tundra is now designed in Newport Beach, California, engineered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, its engine is built in Huntsville, Alabama and then the final assembly takes place at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas.

Not here to debate, so I'll say something undebatable. Toyota is the slowest to update their half ton truck and it shows.

All 3 domestic companies are pouring money into newer models and engines as well as chassis.

I don't want to include Nissan because that cummins ordeal was a nightmare, there's engine swapped half tons with Inline Cummins that get better MPG and Towing than that thing.

I agree, this truck has a funky transmission... its what Toyota put in it. We have to live with it. Life is short, trade the thing , get something that makes you smile when you drive down the road.

Toyota knows they will never beat the big 3 NA truck companies, they are not dumping a $Billion+ development funds into the new 2020 platform knowing it will never reach the production numbers that Ford & GM, DCA has.
So you will see an evolution of the Tundra coming next, not revolutionary changes. Expect the same stuff, maybe an upgraded interior, some body panel changes.

    I would say gey OVTune.

Why not pay someone local a case of beer so they let you test drive OVtune?

Try driving in in S6 for a week. I always assumed S6 and D are the same thing, but some owners suggest S6 prevents the transmission learning and shifts less. Give it a shot and see if anything changes, it's free. Just have to remember to put it in S6 every time you drive.

I had two Tundras, last a '10 Crewmax 5.7, sold to my brother with 231K on it and in fantastic shape. The Tundra shifts up fast like the taco, but the difference is the V8 has the torque to handle it and the overall experience is smooth and normal and you don't think about it. Yeah, people would bitch about the interior and plastic but I spent over 8 years in that truck commuting, going to motorcycle races, camping, etc. and it held up great and looks far newer than its age. No squeaks, rattles, nothing. If I had the room on my property I would have just bought a beater car to commute and kept it for recreation. Its a better truck for everything but commuting (15-15.5mpg), city driving/parking, and off roading. The Tacoma is a better all around truck and especially commuter, but the drivetrain performance is disappointing even with the TSB. ECT and S modes are workarounds and fine in most cases but on highway speed hills its never happy and either looses speed, a shift fest, or you run in a lower S mode gear. Fortunately I don't do a lot of this but its annoying and immediately apparent. It would be pretty good if D were just a slightly tighter shifting ECT mode without all the AI learning shit. I can't see this thing lasting as long as a Tundra when it shifts about 4-5 times as much, and I tend to keep my trucks awhile. This is not only a Tacoma thing, a lot of these new autos are 8 or 9 speeds and shift like crazy. A CVT would be a great solution but as far as I know only light duty ones for cars exist as of now.

Get the Tundra, but you will need to buy a gas station to keep it filled with fuel.

Tacoma - gripe about the multiple items that do not function properly

Tundra - gripe about the size and fuel consumption
