Am I the only one that thinks PRO grill is totally cheap/fugly?

Toyota needs to do something about that TACOMA tail gate. Every 3rd gen has the same tailgate.

What do you think the OEM is? So yes, you are the only one that thinks it's cheap. Move along.

When I first got my truck in December 2016 not many Pro trucks were out yet, knockoffs were non-existent, and I liked the fact that it said Toyota rather than having the lame Toyota emblem that came stock with my cheese grill. I think another reason pro grills are losing popularity is that the look is so common and people want to be different. For me, hey I got my legit Pro grill for $210 shipped on eBay back in January 2017. So for that price it was well worth it to me for that cosmetic upgrade. I have always liked the sr5 black grill though.

Derp'ing looks great and gives the grater the proper character. You can even pickup a take off grille for cheap so that you can take your time cleaning and derp'ing it. That's what I did. $20 for the grille and about $16 for the derp.

Now, I'm thinking about etching the original and getting a solid coat of paint on it.

Toyotapartsdeal.com the oem pro grill is $185, and 55 for the sensor garnish. Easy install and truck looks a lot better to me and the girlfriend. The chrome had to go.

I have a new tailgate on order. I’m ordering it raw, unlettered, and having a shop emboss it with the same font as the original letters. Rather than ‘Tacoma’, it’s going to say ‘Fuck Yah!’. I’m pretty stoked about this mod. Hope it’s worth the $3700.

I remember when I bought my '92. It was the first year for the "Circle T" as it replaced "TOYOTA" on the grill. I much preferred the circle at the time. I do like the PRO grill, but what was old is new again. I kept the cheese grater TRD grill on my new Tacoma, but did replace the chrome bezel with the SR black bezel.

I got the pro grille and regret it.. if it didn't protrude it would look great, but it just looks out of place and awkward. The only reason I haven't swapped it is I love that it has the Toyota lettering.. if I can find a decent replacement with the lettering I'll drop the pro so quick. I've also toyed with getting a limited grille.. I feel like the gunmetal wheels on my truck would match the shade of grey on that grille.

I picked up a trim ring from an SR and replaced the chrome ring. I’m happy with this.

That's what I did before getting a knock off Pro. I left the emblem and the outer ring 'chrome' and did the rest black. It isn't too hard to take apart just take your time with the clips. They will break if you get angry or impatient.

Surprise surprise! Everyone has their opinions / likes and dislikes...

Pro grill is meant as part of package. The grill looks perfectly badass in its natural environment (TRD PRO truck). Where everything compliments each other. The Pro grill, hood with scoop, TRD skid, Rigid Fogs, Pro wheels, Pro heads and tails, etc. It all flows together very well.

Now, put just the grill on a regular taco and it can look a little off. In my opinion, by itself, the Pro grill can look out of place. All the focus will go to how much the grill sticks out, instead of the grill working as part of a package.

    My $0.02.

Do yourself a favor and go eBay. Can’t tell a difference!

Yeah, if I were to get one, I would definitely go the eBay route. NO way I'd pay for an OEM one. But, I like my current grille.

The pro grille is nothing special which is exactly why I like it. Gaudy grilles are disgusting to me and I classify the TRD OR grille as such. The SR5 grille is okay, better than the OR but it still has the chrome emblem and chrome surround which are gross.

On my 17 OR, the grille was the only chrome part on the entire truck (besides the little Tacoma emblems on the doors) and all that chrome up front just looked out of place to me. At that point I didn't realize that so many people do the Pro grille upgrade, but really who cares? It's a chunk of Chinese plastic, just like the one that came on the truck. I like the way it looks better (I got the knockoff), and it's my truck :)
