The timing belt was a bummer but the power to weight ratio was cool.

 

When I was growing up, my dad always wanted a Chevy LUV 4x4. For whatever reason, my fam was alway tied (too tightly) to GM products.

The Taco sort of brings me back to the many times we wandered through car lots looking at them but never buying.

I did the one in my 96 and it wasnt bad. Plus the Aisin kit on Amazon is only about $180. Very reliable engine and tranny combo though. Maybe add a gear driven t-case to round out a very robust package.

There's a reason that auto manufacturers can't do this. The body designs of yesteryear don't conform to modern crash safety requirements. Case in point, the old slim Acura NSX doors are not compliant, because car doors must come up to the drivers shoulder to pass modern crash tests.

I also remember reading somewhere when I was younger, that American auto manufacturers design/style a vehicle with it's profile in mind, where Japanese auto manufacturers focused on the "face" (front) of the car. Think about classic Japanese sports cars and this seems to be true.

 

The third gen does have a pretty disproportionate nose. Sometimes my truck looks a bit ugly, and other times it looks great. Depends on the angle. The skewp makes the front look a bit tall too.... Tradeoffs of new regulations I guess.

 

But... But that's not a Taco...

That was an exaggeration lol. Just wanted him to know he’s dumb for even posting it. For a guy to say he owns a truck and it’s ugly from the side just confuses me.

 

I don't have the best profile from the side. My nose... it's just a lil big... But I can admit it. I'm not ashamed.
