3D Printed Parts Thread

wanted to share a couple prints from the cheapo printers
the grey print was from the cr-10

i also built SLA (ish) style printer that uses arduino, dlp projector, stepper motor and some random parts, cost me well under 500 for very high resolution output without visible layer lines, but i wouldn't suggest this technology printing for strong usable parts..as they are prone to warping and shrinkage. You can make really high quality prints without having to spend a lot on the printer. (spend money on a quality slicer like simplify 3d)

This is a rebrand of the Prusa i3 and Wanhao or something like that. So far its very easy to use.

Searching on Thingiverse does come up with a few Tacoma specific items, but nothing too crazy. I did print some of the radio knobs from there and they turned out alright.

 

Yeah I was speaking of the integrated camera in the makerbot gen 5. Not to familiar with makerbot that's why i was asking if they already had a program in place to stream it over wifi to whoever wants to watch, say the person allotted for that time slot at his library.

LUCKY, damn what a cool library system. Clark County libraries aka Vegas libraries close at like 8pm... In a fucking 24 hour city, like at least keep it open during the summer for the kids, schools fucked here too. Besides that, what happens, say, when someone else is ready to print but yours is still going, there's is just queued up or do they have to sign up for another open time slot to print? I would expect if you can do a 5 hour print that not many are taking advantage of this program.

 

I guess I should feel lucky. Libraries here are filled with 6 year olds and their parents and maybe a few in their late 50s and 60s reading books or trying to learn computers and stuff with their classes the library hosts. You don't have 20 and 30 year olds hanging out in libraries. They're all busy with Amazon and netflix. And pirating stuff. I don't think people who know how to 3D print go there lol. I signed up and learned that basically nobody uses it. For the 5 hour print they just gave me all Saturday to myself. If you do a 1 or 2 hour print then they basically set up time slots and you just have toake sure your print is done by the next persons time or librarian will turn it off and let the next person use it. Doesn't seem to be an issue. For my long print I had to wait until the following weekend since weekdays were full already where there wasn't enough time for my print.

 

I've been researching 3D printing for the last several years. I have still yet to purchase one for myself but believe that this technology is the way if the future. After HP announced it's new multi jet fusion printer I saw a drastic leap forward in the ability of printed manufacturing. Being able to change the material type, color, texture, compound, etc of each "voxel" is literally mindblowing. They even mentioned that in the future they would be able to control the continuity of said voxels allowing you to physically print circuitry into your finished product. The amount of progress that has been made in 3D printing over the last 10 or so years is staggering.

This is why I haven't purchased a printer yet. There is always something right around the corner bigger and better than before. If money wasn't an issue I'd jump on board with @mesojdm and grab a multi jet fusion printer but just like in the mid 80's when 3D printing started the price is too high for me to invest in a technology that is ever changing because I will always want the best product available.

 

Ive got a flashforge creator pro. Running on an octopi setup (HIGHLY recommended) with Simplify3D slicer. Upgraded to glass bed with a shim.

Pretty good for most things. Think I have had it running round the clock for weeks now.

Yeah, I feel the same way. The Hilux sail panels would probably fit a second gen better (but still not fit correctly).

 

Came here hoping to find a model for a sun visor retainer for a 2nd gen. Anyone have any ideas? Happy to experiment

I wish someone would make and sell some black plastic pieces that would fit in that narrow spaces at the sides of the rear seat, close to the doors, so it'd be easier to vacuum out. It's a narrow spot that even the narrow attachment on a vacuum cleaner has trouble pulling dog hair out of. Might be worth it to have something similar at the sides of the front seats, something to fill in the narrow spaces so stuff doesn't get in there and it's easier to clean out.
